[slm] Mu'adh ibn Jabal , a great companion of the Prophet, Allah's peace be upon him, said: "Knowledge is a comforting friend in times of loneliness, it is the best companion during travels, and it is the inner friend who speaks to you in your privacy. Knowledge is the discerning proof of what is right and what is wrong, and it is the positive force that will help you surmount the trials of comfort, as well as those of hardships. Knowledge is your most powerful sword against your enemy, and finally, it is your most dignifying raiment in the company of your close companions." ;====================== Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “Knowledge ensures our acts as lawful for us. It provides the basis of worship.” [Abu Dawood and Saheeh at-Tirmidhee # 2590] ;======================= “It is only those who have knowledge amongst His slaves that fear Allah.” [Soorah Al-Fatir (35): 28] Check out this article: http://www.ahya.org/books/know/know1.html |

[slm] Last year I made some book marks for a college bound Muslim, These were the quotes I used: I copied and paste, so just ignore the ones that you want. Whoever wants to be a leader should educate himself before educating others. Before preaching to others he should first practice himself. Whoever educates himself and improves his own morals is superior to the man who tries to teach and train others.-Ali (R.A.) "Acquire knowledge, it enables its professor to distinguish right from wrong; it lights the way to heaven. It is our friend in the desert, our company in solitude and companion when friendless. It guides us to happiness, it sustains us in misery, it is an ornament amongst friends and an armor against enemies." Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) "Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph." Haile Selassie "O Lord, grant me your love, grant me that I love those who love you; grant me, that I might do the deeds that win your love. Make your love dearer to me than the love of myself, my family and wealth." (Tirmidhi) Intelligence is constantly a function of the spirit: when the latter no longer possesses its purity, the former no longer has its depth. -Malik Bennabi "Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction." Surah: 13: 28. "The greatest start of Knowledge is to listen and remain silent, then to memorise it, then to act upon it, then to spread it." Muhammad ibn an-Nadr Indeed righteousness illuminates the heart, radiates the face, strengthens the body, increases provision, and produces a love in the hearts of the creation for that person. ibn Abbaas "A person who goes in search of knowledge, he is in the path of God and he remains so till he returns." Tirmizi, "When my servants ask you concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I respond to the prayer of every supplicant when he calls on Me: let them also, with a will, listen to my call, and believe in Me: that they may walk in the right way"[al-Baqarah,v.186]. "Let those who choose to stray, stray. We, on our part have lit the lamp during darkness, and we will keep the flame burning"-Maulana Maududi If the other person laughs at you, you can pity him; but if you laugh at him you may never forgive yourself. If the other person injures you, you may forget the injury; but if you injure him you will always remember. In truth the other person is your most sensitive self given another body. -Kahlil Gibran |

[slm] I bought special paper and did them on my computer. I also purchased some nice ribbon, tassles and charms at the local craft store. They do have bookmark craft sets at Barnes and Nobles as well as craft stores like AC Moore. Not plugging a particular store, I have just seen them there. |

Assalamu Alaikum "All humans are dead except those who have knowledge and all those who have knowledge are asleep, except those who do good deeds...and those who do good deeds are deceived except those who are sincere...and those who are sincere are always in a state of worry" -Imam Ash-Shaafi "He who acts without knowledge causes more corruption than good, and he who does not consider his speech to be part of his actions sins repeatedly" [`Umar bin `Abd al-Azeez] Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy upon him, says: “There does not exist a need of the souls that is greater than their need for the knowledge of their Maker and Originator, and for possessing love of Him, mentioning Him, being delighted at Him, and for seeking a means and position with Him. However, there is no route to this except by way of knowledge of His characteristics and names. Thus, the more knowledgeable the slave is of these names and attributes, the more knowledgeable he will be of Allaah, the more will be his quest of Him, and the nearer he will be to Him. Likewise, the more averse he is to the names and attributes, the greater ignorance he will have of Allaah, the more will be his dislike for Him and the further away he will be from Him. Allaah affords the slave a status with Him that is in accordance with the status that the slave gives to Allaah with himself...” 71 Al-Kaafiyah ash-Shaafiyah, pg 3-4 Sufyan ibn Uyainah (d. 198H) said, "Piety is seeking knowledge by which piety is known." Ibn Shihab Az-Zuhri, "Whoever aims to acquire knowledge all at once, it will leave him all at once. Rather knowledge should be acquired over the passage of days and nights" Yusuf ibn al-Hunain said, "With good manners you understand the knowledge, and with knowledge your actions are corrected. And with the actions wisdom is obtained. And with wisdom you understand Zuhd (abstinence) and are granted the benefit of it. And with Zuhud comes abandoning the world and with abandoning the world comes the longing for the Hereafter. And with the longing for the Hereafter the pleasure of Allaah, Azzawajall is obtained." Sufyan Al-Thawri (d.161H) said, "We do not know anything better than seeking knowledge with intention." Ibn Mas'ood said, "Learn, learn! So when you have learnt then act." |

[slm], I just wanted to say I think the bits of info and quotes given here are really SUPER. And sis Kathy, it is strange that I want to do the same thing you did....ie making bookmarks. Is it very expensive to make those bookmarks? How long does it take to make them? Did you make many of them? Wish I could have a look at a few you made. |

[slm] The expense is up to you. How elaborate you want the paper, charms and ribbons. I tend to be a perfectionist when designing these things. So it did take alot of time designing and formating them. I gave them as a gift set. if I knew how to cut copy and past from Printmaster I could do it...but alas i am computer challenged! |

Assalamu Alaikum The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, God will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and (even) the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave (no monetary inheritance), they leave only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion. Sunan of Abu-Dawood, Hadith 1631 Also, http://www.muslimheritage.com/topics/default.cfm?ArticleID=249 there is more, i will post later, Inshallah |
