Tolerant or a Chicken ?

Today on my way to work i stopped on a red signal. A lad was handing ppl some pamphlets and gave one to me as well. Counter showed that there were ~15 seconds till the signal goes green, so i skimmed through it.

Heading: "khudawand" (god) is merciful.
Middle: "yassu maseeh" (Jesus Christ) ... repeated quite a lot.
Ending remark: Would you join christianity then ?!

Its against the law of Pakistan to preach other religions but we know full well that missionaries operate quite freely here and target ignorant/poor ppl to rob their faith by material help! Many in villages far away convert too, just for this material gain, but i've never heard of someone converting and accepting it on logical grounds.

Anyhow, i was taken by surprise and to tell you the truth i had no idea what to do... simply "no" idea!!!!!!! Its summer here, i'm already experiencing the satan dance around as women walk around with dresses so thin that leave 'simply nothing' for your imagination, can't do anything about it as i'm helpless in that case.

But this one is different, quite different! I'm scared for the faith of my weak Muslim brethren. How would you handle this situation if you lived here?

1] Report them to authorities? (note, missionaries are quite influencial)
2] Do dawah to them right on the spot?
3] Give them an earful ?

I know full well that a person like me would simply blow it if i do #2 & 3. Why? bcoz i'm told (mostly by my bro) that i walk rudely!! (i dont mean to though) and sometimes the way i see others doesn't seem friendly!!

This time i was on my bike, i locked it right there in the left most lane and started walking towards him not knowing what i'll do or say to him. He was some fifty yards away at other side of the road waiting for others and for the signal to go red again.

Now he is watching me marching towards him. I just handed back the pamphlet to him and did my best to wear a smile, which i did, said thanks to him and back to my bike.

It didn't take me long to reach office as 100+ is quite fast... bcoz i was blaming myself for being so helpless!!!

I live in a Muslim country, whats happening here?! I'm soo distressed!!!

You live in a "Muslim" country, bro.  Everything happens in Pakistan, this phenomenon is not new.  You know that school in Murree?  What do you think the sole purpose of its 30 yr existence is?  I remember being seriously wigged out whenever I went to that school (we used to perform there).

I reread my entire post, and decided it didn't need to be there.  :)

Good luck, Nomi!

Wasalaam.

Salaams,
the satan dance around as women walk around with dresses so thin that leave 'simply nothing' for your imagination, can't do anything about it as i'm helpless in that case.
Your as helpless as you want to be my dear nephew, keep the zikr of Allah on your tongue and it works. To relate what I do I have a copy of the quran in my suit jacket, and the pocket is close to my heart. Every time and evil thought comes to me I remember that I am carrying the quran close to my heart and thats what I want rather than the filth of Satan. I know it's hard with all these women, wearing hardly anything yet we have to be harsh on ourselves before we judge them. May Allah guide our sisters and may women all over the world find that covering up is real beauty.

Anyway try my Quran tip Insha-Allah it'll work. Islam is simplicity nothing complicated! I also read one para everyday on the train that equates to 30 in a month, therefore, thats 12 qurans completed in a year Insha-Allah, easy my little nephew! Go on just do it!

Tell the guy it's against the law to do something like this, and his violating articles of Christianity by breaking the law. Try and win the arguement over by not ridiculing the religion but by making him think about what he is doing is wrong. And then once his heard your side of the argument, then advise him how close the prophet of Allah is to the other prophets.

Salaams from your uncle,

Hanif

I am not so sure about the law thing. as far as my personal knowledge goes, Christians have been preaching - door to door, correspondence, advertisements etc.

about the conversion of poor people. Yes, it is sad. Go out with the Tableegh or Dawah people more.

There is more danger in the secularisation of our education system. In the name of secularisation, it is becoming hostile to deen. The products of convents and missionary schools are at best non-practicing muslims. What they teach is that all religions are equal. As long as you believe in some sort of deity, or if you are a good human being, you are all right.

dawah, Nomi, is the answer.

1.  Being a "Muslim" country does not mean that other religions should not have freedom to express their religion.

2.  Do we really want mindless people who have no idea what Islam is to be called Muslims just to up the majority ratios or because we care?

3.  If we CARE, then why are WE not helping these people to undretsand the faith in which they were born in?

4.  With regard to someone handing me a pamphlet, i usually tell them that i am content with my Faith and find it rude that the person would assume that i am not.  If i am at home and at this point if they do not go away then i offer to hand them a copy of the Quran in English in exchange for their pamphlet.  That does not grab them poo well usually, so they leave.

The point is their assumption that everyone except THEY know the "civilised" way to God Almighty.

5.  I would suggest reading up on Brother Ahmed Deedat's literature and maybe passing those around yourself.  We complain a lot about the presence of other religious movements, but i find with most Islamic Dawah movements, if they not out there criticising, you never can find them when you need them.  People have been ridiculed enough by these "movements" and need guidance.  It is up to every individual who understands the TRUTH to guide others to it. Lets not leave it to others.

6.  To me the Islamic Dawah movements need to mobolise in different ways such as :-

*how about sponsoring a rural child's education?
*Maybe organising a weekend Madressah class where adults are also taught
       HOW to teach the children.
*Get together adults to taech them skills so that they can have a sense of
self worth and won't lick the first hand that offers them a food package

Allah SWT put us here to be a source of strength and hope to each other, that is why the concept of "Brotherhood" is emphasised.

Once it so happened that i was there at a cell phone connection office. I needed to get my cell SIM re-issued, there were four counters, two male and two females were handling them. As always i went to a male but their system crashed (must be running M$ windoze), so everyone had to wait. System was up in less than 5 minutes and some other dude in his hurry took my place.

To cut the long story short, when i was sitting there waiting for my turn this girl at the other desk asked me "Sir let me take care of that...". I dint want to go to her even though she was free, coz she was wearing these half sleeves and thats not all, her sleeves were ripped from the shoulders, you know, those half sleeve dresses with heart-shape cut out from shoulders (if you've been watching indian movies then i call it the rape effect!!)

Now i had no choice, dint want to look rude, went to her, started filling the form. Weird that i am, i thought i must say/do/think of 'something' to do "nahi anil munkir".

Asked the other guy for a postit, wrote something on it and sticked it on her desk in a special way that i use it... (see below)

It stays erected on your desk like that.

Told her that "its for you" and away i go! ... Here is what i wrote:

=> For how long shall we remain slaves of "others"?
=> How many more ways shall we adopt to show more skin?
=> Your shoulders!!!

** Think **

So? how many of you hate me now?

Righto, if you've come out of the shock then i've more to add about missionaries. The engineer i go to to get my bike fixed is a TJ guy, once few missionaries came to him and the nun asked him that whether he understands english. He stayed quite so another preacher started talking to him in urdu and told him many benefits of converting to christianity!

My friend (has a fist length beard.. wears paki dresses) there asked them, "ok, just make me understand the concept of 'trinity' and i'll convert!!!" (Hes a learned man, he knew that they wont be able to explain it). Those preachers said that you'll have to convert first to be able to understand it, my friend argued that why are they so confused about the very 'roots' of their religion and asked them again to make him understand and he'll convert!

That nun said "leave him, hes a fundamentalist". Till this point conversation was in urdu, that nun didn't know urdu, my friend replied to her in the language that she understood that "i am a fundamentalist and i am proud of it".

Missionaries left!

Thats what my bro was telling me yesterday i.e. they just can't convince 'anyone' even *if* one attends jumah khutbah only and knows only basics of both religions, so convincing religious Muslims will prolly be achieved on the 16th of doomsday!

Then again, steps must be taken to protect our poor brethren who convert for meterial stuff. May Allah guide us all.

I think  its  hard  to  stop people  preaching other  religions  but the  point  is not  how to  stop  some one  from doing this .
and  I think  this wont  be  a  complete  remedy  for  the  problem . Beacuse  the  recipent  doesn  have any  idea  on  both  religions  to  chose   the  ISLAM  than  another

Well  in this case  put  your  matterial  beside  the  other and  let the  taster  chose  the  right  one  for  him

Teach  the  ISLAM  to the  person  you are  caring for   being  preached  others  faiths and  he will  defend  himself

let the  preahcer  does  his work and  wait  till  he  finishes   his  mission and do  your  anti  mission to  his

But some  thing we  muslems are  not  attentive  is

we  want  to  teach the  poor  at  the  middle  of  his  hungre   ?we  dont  give  then  teach

This  is  the week  point they  use  since  they  know  even if we stop  them  from  practicing  their  mission  but the  poor will  run  and  come  to  them

Think    of  not  how  to stop  but  how  to  compete  with   your's ( the  ISLAM and  IMAAN )
;-)

So i failed to make you hate me eh?

Instead, i think the kewlest bro on face of (jannah.org :P ) aka AbuKhalid liketh moi TWO (hehe).

Righto, three more stories and off i go... the last one will be my best attempt to make you hate me. BTW, use this [ >:( ] smiley to express your hatred (like my bro did... figuratively )

1] This boy in block was crazy for someone who he respected like a shaykh yet that "shake" was the worst form one can give to the word "sufi". He said that his "shake" offers his prayers in his heart (wot?) etc..

So one night after offering my salah at a jama masjid (i walk to that masjid sometimes, when i'm mad at myself for riding my car or bike all the time and not moving one muscle of my legs!) i was going back home and i saw him having chicken corn soup with his friend (another kid of my block). So i decided to join them (i think i paid for them..um.. ~not sure) and we started talking about deen etc (the regular swift change of topic!).

He explained how ~liberal his "shake" is and that he doesn't ask him to offer salah etc, rather asks him to rely on endless mercy of Allah [swt] *without* even *trying* to start his prayers bcoz the "peer" ("shake") himself says that he offers his salaahs in his HEART ::)

We talked for more than an hour and alhamdulillah i managed to keep my cool and negate whatever crap that "shake" taught him, without insulting anyone obviously. You know what he said to me when we were done?

He said "i fail to defend myself but there must be someone out there who'll be able to win this argument from you" :( . We are talking about an educated lad here!! *sigh* goes to show that even if we ~outmaneuver some ~pepul for good even then they wont give in!

2] During hajj, we are in "muzdalifa", a desi family is sitting there eating and this lady is wearing such a thin dress that (astagfirullah). I said to myself that i've done nothing about this matter so far in my islamic life, i wont stay quiet here!

They looked paki/punjabi, i asked that one bro in their family for one minute of his time which he happily gave me. Sorry but he dint look a learned person so i talked to him in punjabi with my one hand on his shoulder:

Me: Bro did you attend those lectures they arrange for hajjis ?

He: no.

Me: I did bro, and their is a reason they arrange those lectures, our shaykh told us that women should take an over coat with them (at least) coz when they sweat OR when ~some even pour zamzam on themselves (why?) then this over coat will help them cover their sat'r.

He: "sahi kaenday oo" (you are right)

Me: <walked him to the back side of his family member lady>: See bro, your sis is my sis, you relative is my sis... dont mind what i'm gonna say next as i'm saying this for my sister in deen.. <point to the lady> ... see my bro, thats why they arrange those lectures. "bura tay nahi manaya tusee" (i hope you dint mind)

He: <Took out a chador/shawl and told that lady what i told him and asked her to cover>

3] (this one) Me on my street hawk (eh?) under me helmet, headed to my buddy's place. This man and a lady on their bike (not a street hawk!). We stop on a red signal, its evening but still dress of that sister is showing her back and bra. This dude in a car next to us is on "high beam", okay i should think positive, um.. on second thought i would rather not!! Me was ALL eye-balls.... which boiled my blood more.

Signal goes green, i near my bike to his and said to the "brother": Bro, "my" sis should wear something "thick" enough so that people around wont see her body through them (u guys hating me already??). He replied after a deep sigh, "i think its our headache"; to which i replied, "thats what i mean bro, its your *headache*, you should get rid of it"

Away i went..... and away i go from hea too, i'll be back tomorrow to face your music.
