Who is he?

Assalamu alaikum

I have come across the mention of this person and I would like to find out as much as I can about him.

I believe that the Prophet Muhammad is the last and final messenger.

However, I have heard of the name Khaja Khizer (maybe I don't have the spelling right). Who is this man? It is claimed by what I read that he was a Prophet of Allah, who was bestowed with life till the doomsday.

Please if you can answer these questions.

Who is this man?
Who believes in him?

If you can not answer the questions do you know where I can get them answered.

Jazakallah.

[slm] sister

Hadrat Khidr is mentioned in the Quran (actually he is not even mentioned by name, we know his name through Ahadith) in Suratul Kahf as a wise and knowledgable character, however he is not mentioned as a prophet and is therefore not one of the 25 Prophets mentioned in the Quran. But there were thousands of prophets sent to people and only 25 are mentioned. So Khidr (as) could be a prophet, we do not know since he was not referred 2 by Allah (swt) or the Prophet Muhammad  [saw] as a Prophet. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Shi'as think a lot of Hadrat Khidr, I think as a messenger or maybe one of their Imams??

Also, I think there is some speculation as to whether he was a man or an angel. I think that, regardless of who he is, it is clear that this narration i the Quran is a lesson to Prophet Musa (as), and through it, we as Muslims are taught to place our trust in Allah and never to question His wisdom.

I hope I havent confused u further! And i sincerely apologise if anything of this is incorrect
Wassalam,
Citrus

[slm] a great deal of what we hear about Khidr is speculation by some sufis, and the AHadeeth about him are not authentic.

This is the name given to the person Hadrat Musa (as) met and accompanied until his wonder at the three things made him ask 3 questions after which they parted.

He is reported to have several characteristics, but speculation about him is useless, because whatever one says about him cannot be proved. Many fables have been invented about him. In some Sufi circles he is credited with extraordinary powers, and they even pray to him it can be dangerous for your imaan to be too involved. But if you relate what, where and the context you have heard about him, perhaps some help can be forthcoming.

It falls under the heading of "ilmun la yanfau" the knowledge which is useless.
