| [slm] No, not her's. Somebody else's :) Actually i was wonderfooling that what different type of nicknames do Muslims have? For instance two of my older cousins are nick-named PINKY and they belong to opposite gender! Another older female cousin is named POMI while i have a friend and "his" nick is also POMI. My siblings are lucky coz they haven't got any nick, my nickname is Nomi (i'm a male... alhamdulillah :P) and many of us must be knowing who "Naomi" is ;D Weird eh? BTW, what do you folks name your hard-drives? (H.D.Ds)? I've named them "Vitamen C" (windows installation drive); "Vitamen D" (offcial and personal docs drive) and "Vitamen E" (vacant drive)). Do you have any relatives of opposite gender who share same nicks? Any innovative ideas for new nickname of my hard-drives ?? What did you name your's? | naming a hard drive? are you kidding. I might have called my computer in general a few names , but then Not out loud so that my kids could here , and then I seek forgiveness |

| [slm] My older brother calls me "theta" (yeah, like the angle. sine cosine tangent THETA). I don't know why...but I think it's because when he was an annoying teenager, he used to whistle entire conversations...I know it's weird, but sadly, very very true. He couldn't whistle my name so I became "Theta". Some of my friends from high school remember me as "Froggie" but there's an embarrassing story behind that. When I've been a good girl (which is not very often) my mommy calls me "saaroo". Wasalaam. |

"pum" as in pump, not like p'you'ma, rather 'pumma' (hehe) He saved my back lotsa times when i used to take undue "pungas" (mess with someone) in my childhood. [/quote] Thats a special nick, its used by desis for those who are exceptionally good at studies. Few of my friends went to windsor uni CA. One of them is working in Toronto as a Software Engineer. We used to call him "theta" coz he was soo good at mathematics. (of course i was one of the best at coding :) ) Another female colleague at work secured a medal at her uni, she is also called "theta" by "her" friends. hm..... He used to tease her with that nick and i picked it from my elders so i occasionally call her "peeto" and when she starts going red i go like "oops sorry, slip of tongue heh". My friends also used to call me "lamma" (tall guy - even) ::) .. Here are other nicks of my friends.. iffi (iftikhar) billa munna (this guy is 6'5 and they call him munna... why??) da'nee sony gugu (lol) <and many more> |

| [slm] Okay this one is ~interesting. Some of my friends call me "Sufi" ::). Then they argue among themselves that "why" do they call me that, then one of them is like "hey at least i do it out of respect" (yeah right). Actually i "let" them make fun of me coz they dont get to do it much as its me who makes them spin in circles mostly, well not all of them as few of them are the REAL funkmasters ;) And if they ever read this thread............ A loud "OYE", to them ... Speaking of this nick i.e. "sufi". Over the months i've noticed that we on this board really bash that class, prolly one reason for that is many among us including the top management are salafi... hm... is that one big reason eh? Ok, Abu_Hamza, no need to answer that as i got full well what you said in your IM. I just wanted to add that the shaykh who i respect the most(est) is called "Sufi Muhammed Sarwer". People call him that coz there is another "Muhammad Sarwer" around, so something should be there for identifying their "works". If you listen to this shaykh you'll think of him as the biggest *salafi* (its not a typo) on the face of earth (by your standards). Just wanted to make this point that we must not generalize all that much. generalize eh? [slm] :) |
