Assalam alaikum everyone, :)

What should be done before taking Zam Zam water? What type of state should a person be in? What prayers ahould they say? Are they said before or after taking the water? How much water should be taken? How often should it be taken? Only once? Daily?

Any advcie you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Stephanie

Dear Stephanie,
I don't know of any particular prayer that goes with drinking Zamzam water, you usually make a du'aa before drinking it.  The Prophet (S) said that Zamzam is for what it is drunk for, in other words, if you're drinking it and ask Allah to make it a food or medicine for you He does.
I think the best is to have wudoo, to drink with your right hand and to be sitting down although the Prophet and companions did drink it standing up.  One should drink one's fill of zamzam (this applies to Umrah and perhaps to any other situation you're drinking it in), the word in Arabic is "TaDallu3" and sort of means that you should keep drinking till you feel it in your ribs if you know what I mean.  The Prophet (S) said that no one is capable of this except a believer (you'll see that the water is very strong and heavy).
All this information I got from a talk by Amr Khaled on Hajj, he spoke specifically about the sunnah of drinking zamzam.

If it's for your mother you should probably have her drink it and ask Allah to make it a cure for her. May Allah cure her.  Her words that you posted made my heart very heavy.  I've never communicated with her but I've always felt she was a very strong person who'd been through a lot and who deserves the best in this world and the next.

Dear Stephanie, I hope all is well.

What M.F. has said is true. any dua you make is likely to be met. If your mother can go for Umrah, it would be nice.

At Mecca, they use Zam Zam water for everything. When there, people drink it as much as possible. At home, in Pakistan, people returning from Hajj or Umrah bring ZamZam for distribution. It can be kept for ages. It does not go bad.

When we have only a little of it left, we add a few drops to the local water and drink it. But of course it is best if there is enough to be drunk pure.

we have to go back to the time of the prophet Ibrahim (as). He was asked by Allâh (swt) to bring his wife Hajirah & infant son Ismael to Mecca.

When they arrived, they found a deserted place (in a desert :) ). Ibrahim (as) left some dates in a leather jacket & a some water in a vessel. Hajirah asked why he was leaving her & their son in the desert, & Ibrahim (as) replied that it was Allâh's order. Then Hajirah said that if this was Allâh's desire, then Allâh will take care of them, and so Ibrahim left.

the water was used up, there had been no travellers, & Ismael began to feel thirsty, & to cry for water. Hajrah tried to console him, but the thirst grew, and Hajirah ran over to a mound to see if any caravan or a traveller was headed that way. then she ran back to console her child. This she did seven times. & in the Hajj, the running of the pilgrims between the two hillocks Safaa and Marwah seven times is a reminder of that. By the seventh such run, she had found no one, & came back dejected. Then Ismael, in his thirst, was throwing his arms and feet around, & his foot hit a rock, and a stream of fresh water sprang forth. The water was coming out with great speed, and Hajirah was so pleased and overwhelmed, she said "zim, zim" meaning "stay put!" and she gathered around sand to stop the water from flowing. Thus was the well of ZamZam formed. The prophet said something about if Hajirah had not said: Zam, Zam, th water would have flowed until it irrigated all of (Arabia or is it Hijaz he said, please someone confirm it).

zamzam is the name of the well, as well as the water.

it is miraculous. The water can be kept for ages, & will stay drinkable.

this well supplies water to the residents, & during Hajj days, this single source caters to millions of pilgrims. The water is now being pumped to Medina (city of the prophet) as well.

this is briefly what I remember. If there is a mistake, i apologise, & hope someone will correct or expound on what I have written.

All  you  have to  do  is to say  BISMALLAH  and drink  it or  wash  with  it  if   its  needed    for  skin   or  hair  as  a  medicine    . but  for washing  of caurse it can  be mixed  with  normal water
The  dua  to  be said  before  drinking  is  not  obligatory to pronounce    a  partucular words  and  hence  only  making DUAA  to  make  this  water a  medicince for the  user  with  any  language   will work  or  with  out  words but  from  heart

The  effctivness  of the  ZAMZAM  depends  on  how  much  the  user  is  faithful  this  is a medicine that  cures &jbsp;him/her

No  matter  who  uses  more  than  the  other  to  be  more effective  as  it  matters  to  pay  and give full  confidence  it  is  useful  and  blessed  , so  even  few drops can  do  more than  a  barrel  if  it  is used  with  trust  and  confidence

Just use  it according  to  the  circumstance and that  INSHALLAH   will  be  very  good  medicine .
