We have a problem, its about Fatima.

You see kids usually stay in diapers so they develop rash!! It gets really annoying for them at times. Like we do apply lotion etc but still, 2+ years with diapers is just too much!!

Any suggestions or alternatives to make it easy on them poor kiddies ?

Who ARE you???  ;D
I've read that baking soda is good for diaper rashes.  Have your baby sit or play in a shallow tub of water with some baking soda for a short time every day till it clears up insha Allah.

Salaams,

It has to be vaseline, vaseline, vaseline. Also potty train em as well that way they get an idea of where to go. Sh'es getting to an age where she knows that if she wets her nappy she gets discomfort, thats a sign that she will soon be weaning off diapers.

Fatimah number 1 is doing well on that front, she's onto knickers now!

Hope Fatimah number 2 gets better.

Salaams,

Hanif

Vaseline is the best!
Also the diaper may be the problem. If it is cotton..then she may need to be dryed out more often and the detergent used may be causing the rash.

If they are disposable...then get fragrence free.

Hmmm... the direction of the board has begun to change.... from :"what to do if a boy looks at me"..to diaper rash!

Bag balm worked great for my older one.  It was originally used for cow udders, but you can find it in most drug stores now.  It worked way better than vasoline, i think it has more lanoline in it.  My younger one seemed to have a different type of rash, and we used calmoseptine and that worked.

Nomi,  I didn't realize you were married.  If so, how long and how many kids?

Assalamu 'alaikum,

Nomi, time to think  :). So, how do those parents manage who cannot afford diapers? Or u could ask ur mom also, how did she manage with *you*  :D. How about letting Fatima roam around without the diapers, and you could clean-up every now and then. I mean, lets play *mamoo mamoo* instead of daddy  :). Ok, maybe not so useful suggestions, me is out.

mamoo= maternal uncle.

Wassalam.

When my son had a rash as an infant no ointment (vasaline) helped it as it kept it moist and the idea was to keep the area dry. My old southern mother-in-law suggested corn starch and IT WORKS!!!!!!!
I even suggested it to my daughter-in-law when my grandbaby had gotten a bit of a rash and IT WORKED!!!!!!!!.
Some things work where others don't.
Potty training will help but until that is done, but if you find lotions and  ointments won't help, try corn starch and keeping the area dry (not moist with lotions) some baby powder manufacturers make theirs with corn starch.

Considering the fact that how many times i wash my hands daily and other good attributes in me, make me want to think that prolly i was potty trained from day ONE ;D

I was kinda scared to search that over the net coz these days they'll throw porn sites at you even if you are searching angelic stuff. "Butt Paste" sure doesn't sound angelic but still, alhamdulillah, i managed to reach their website without hitting any porn site.

BUT, the implicit question was.... isn't there a way of avoiding the rashes, like some way through which they dont even develop?

There must to be a way!!

the only way I know is to change nappies often enough to limit contact with the urine etc

oh and using those creams suggested would help protect the bottom as well  :)

Bro, thou shall not invoke the name of a desi in vain…. inshallah.

Corn starch aka corn flour is available at your local chakki under the name makke da atta -- the same stuff used to make makke dee roti that go with sarson da saag .
Also available at grocery stores/supermarkets in bright yellow packets with a picture of a corn cob under “corn flour and custards”…usually used to coat chicken legs and potato cutlets.

Btw a time-tested desi remedy for nappy rash is washing the area with the infusion of neem leaves. Recipe: Boil neem leaves in water until the water is  light green. Cool and wash after every nappy change. Or use this water for a bath.
To get to the root of the rash…potty train ASAP and wash with water after every nappy change instead of using wet wipes...hope that helps inshallah.
