| [slm] family :) A friend of mine who's also a user of this board has inspired me to write dis, watch me close cuz ima make it up as i go along, keystyle dats tight ;) YA ALLAH! My hair reached down, too my shoulda blades I rocked long locks and whirls of curls, and tied it into braids YA ALLAH! The Iverson styles i parted thru my hair Had me lookin like a baller, and made Jamaican gurlz stare YA ALLAH! My tight curls, my waves my naps and locks Made me shine of Little Italy, or a Sicile Mafia Boss But YA ALLAH! It really hurt to run those naps thru a comb And im no mafia, so why should i look like a Don Corlione? So YA ALLAH! I had an idea, here is what I did I went from lookin like Steve Nash, to a Jason Kidd YA ALLAH! My hair is gone, cornrows no longer mask me And alhumdullilah masha Allah, Somali girlz cant haraks me YA ALLAH! Now i feel da breeze all up an tru my scalp And when I comb my hair, theres no need to call 911 fo help YA ALLAH! Accept my good deeds, as I stare at dat hair on da flo Cuz I really loved all dem waves, but I just want Jannah way mo And YA ALLAH! I feel like a balhed, I hope dis short hair suits me But if nuffin else, at least now I can rock my kufi So YA ALLAH! My hair is gone, I turn to you for support Cuz Ya Allah aodubillah I cut it sumn too short ::) Hope u like it 8) [slm] |

| [slm] Hmmm, not sure I get what you are saying? Are you saying you can't rock a kufi with braids? Are you saying if one hair is nappy (and naps are not bad) it's distracting you or making you look like criminal???? Just too many bad stereotypes for me, akh. The hairstyles you mentioned are not new.... cornrolls didn't start with Allen Iverson. Muslims of African decent have always cornrolled their hair and there are even references of muslimaat wearing 'plaits' (another word for cornrolls) in the ahadeeth of the prophet (sallallahu alayhee wa sallam). What I get from your poem is that your imitating these styles and once thinking that they made you cool caused you some distress... in your deen. And now that you have them good ... everything is straight? :( |
