hello

what are the benefits of religion? I don't mean just Islam but religion in general. Are
world conflicts a cause of religion, past and present?

Has world religion made a largely negative contribution to world history?
Afterall many wars such as the crusades stem from religion. Please help!!!

The benefits the Islamic religion has had on me is focus.

Because, unlike other religions, it is not only a religion, but a way of life.

I find the structure is good for me. The pillars are tools given to me to help me along the right path. Without them I would most deffinately get lost.

Interesting question.  My take:

Historically, human beings have needed religion, even before the evidence of any of the Abrahamic faiths.  Even the founding "democratic" society of the Roman empire had a complete set of mythology which allowed for the common person to turn to something in order to fill a void.

If you follow a religion, it becomes your passion, your sustenance, and plainly your way of life.  It is THE common bond between you and another set of people.  Perhaps by knowing that you only belong to something Divine, and that you are not alone in this, it connects you with other people.  So then, it is only natural that when something is so dear to you, you want to protect it, cherish it, propogate it, die for it...and that coupled with the idea that this is all for a Divine cause, there ain't stopping it, really.

So yes, I think differences in religion causes conflict.  But that's only natural.  If you had a baby, and someone wanted to kill it, you'd become pretty violent yourself.  In the case of God, for a lot of people, God is more important than your children, your parents, your friends, anything or anyone.  I think it's only natural.

It makes me think, Islam preaches so much peace and goodwill, and so we, as Muslims, are bound by this contract of being loving, gentle, kind, and caring.  Perhaps the reason was to counter this passion, which has the chance of turning morbidly violent.  Wallahu Alam.

All of a sudden, I lost my train of thought.

Wasalaam.

Well  what do we  mean  by religion  first?
If and  yes since  religion means a  bridge   between  ALLAH and  his  creatures .
We cant  comunicate with  ALLAH  with  out religion other wise  we  would  lose  the faith  in ALLAH

It  is  exacatly as  our  daily  life . we  cant  live  with out  constitution
and  regulations  so  relgions are  the  link  between the  messangers  who  brought to the  people  what  to  do and what  not. Imagine a  people with  out   leader  etc. so what  is the  use   of  law  forinstance? It  is the same as  this

As   for  Islam  It  is a  complete constitution ,history and  sceince  and  imgaine  again  how  the world would  look  like  without  these  factors.

But  via  ISLAM we  are for example  christians  in  term  of  believing  in  jesus  and all the  messengers  till we  reach  our  first  father  ADAM.
So  in this sense the  benefit  of  religions  are because  they  told  us where we came  from and  hence  Unify  us  under The  belivers  in  ALLAH unless we  want   the separation  under  different  faiths  but  not  religion

hello,

I think there have been a lot of wars fought in the *name* of religion to promote a particular agenda, just as there have been wars fought in the name of other ideologies, such as democracy, secularism, communism, etc. but that doesn't necessarily put the religion at fault.  you have to look at the political, social and economic context of the conflict before drawing such conclusions.

Hmm.  Wars have also been fought for wealth.  Does that mean money, wealth and property has no benefit, or is inherently evil?
