Training Guide for Islamic Workers

– Hisham Y. Altalib

This training manual for Islamic workers is very crucial for all of us
to maintain adequate mobility of our activities for the cause of Islam.
It has been translated in different languages and widely read in
various arenas. This book is the 1st series on ‘Human Development’ by the
International Islamic Federation of Students Organization’ (IIFSO) and the
‘International Institute of Islamic Thought’ (IIIT) by Dr. Hisham Y.
Altalib from the Department of Human Development, IIIT. ‘This guide does
not seek to make new Muslims. It assumes that its audience has some
commitment to Islam and the willingness to establish its practice. This
guide is designed for easy reading and on-going self-evaluation. The most
effective way to use it is to go over it chapter by chapter’.

The goal of the guide is ‘to produce dynamic Islamic leaders who will
pioneer social change by acquiring knowledge and wisdom, and practicing
da’wah with perceptiveness and communication that is convincing and
effective’. The book has been organized in five parts (in total 37
chapters), namely perspectives on training, functions of leadership, skill
enhancement and self-development, training for trainers and the youth camp
in theory and practice.

It’s an easy-going and understandable guide and a must book for all
Muslim brothers and sisters – to develop themselves to make them more
constructive. With illustrations, graphs, comparison, tables and realistic
examples – the guide notices us on various crucial aspect of human
development in Islamic way. e.g., ‘If the Muslim Ummah reads the most, it
will lead human civilization’.

Most of the chapters have ended with some questions and comprehensive
exercises for improvement of the readers to evaluate themselves. These
are very important for groups or training sessions. This guide can be
treated as a text in full or part in various academic institutions or
Islamic groups where emphasis on human development is a key issue.

Once again, it is a must book to grasp through for all of us – who want
to develop and contribute.
