| How does one tell the difference between the bearded men with the turbin(sorry I do not know the proper name of the head covering/hat) who is Hindu and who is a Muslim brother? Sorry, please don't laugh |

| [slm] I think the Hindu/Seek turban is wrapped to criss-cross at an angle write at the center of the forehead. Muslim brothers just wrap it around with a cap underneath. Plus the seek turban is a boat shape when viewed from the side and if you look at the head from the back you could see that the hair is long underneath good luck [] |

| In addition to what has already been said, sometimes the moustache also gives it away. The Hindus dont trim their moustaches. The Muslims usually do. Also, a Muslim will almost never wear a turban on Western clothing. If a Muslim is wearing a turban, he is almost always wearing some sort of Eastern clothing (like the long Arabian garbs, etc.) Hope that helps. |

| The reason I asked is there were 3 come out of a mini van and entered the store as I did. I wanted to say Salaam......... But last time I did that they were Hindu :o Is it proper to greet or acknowledge brothers upon passing or not cool? I already know sisters are ok to greet. I bet I sound so silly. Oh well :) |

| [slm] The non-muslims from the sub-continent with these turbans and untrimmed beards are Sikhs, not Hindus. although some modern Sikhs have started trimming their beards, and some Hindu "sadhus" have untrimmed beards. |

| [slm] all. Yes they are sikhs (a combination of Muslim and hindu ideas I believe). A muslims has a Cap (Kufi) inside the turban unlike the sikh who has his hair (usually grown as long as possible) balled up and wrapped inside the turban. Also there are no "tails". A muslim Turban usually has two :-X. Young sikhs do not wear Kifi's rather they have a cloth wrapped around their head with a big, wrapped, knot of hair right above the forehead. Also the Sikhs have a larger turban than the muslims (I think this is true mostly in india and maybe the arab region, the africans have a big turban but with tails 8)).
