Deep breath in....and...out.....Ok.

I don't want to start a trend here where all the girls who don't think they're beautiful go insane and overdue it because in my opinion, everyone is beautiful inlcuding me.  However, I have this inclination that I could be a little bit more healthier.

Now I don't want to be skinny cause I think sticks should be thrown to dogs.  I would like to be a bit firmer in some areas like the tummy.  No matter how many sit ups i do, they just don't work.  I've gone to an all girls gym, fully covered still, with sweats galore, but I only got muscles in my arms and legs, but still no firm tummy and I still don't got a butt.

You gotta help me out here, please.  Or do we just not talk about this here.  cause I'm ok with that too.  I'll delete after I get no response or the admin thinks so.

Ma-assalama....

[slm] hugZ to Sister Trustworthy :-)

Maybe you need to look at it as a whole : diet, excercise and lifestyle.

Anyway, what i am saying is that get yourself checked medically if you very thin, so the doc can do something about the metabolism - and together with excercise, ensure that you on the correct diet too.

I heard that fibre does wonders to help flatten the tummy.  Fizzy drinks is a big no-no if you want to control that tummy area.  No more  [] for you  ;)

Also, lifestyle plays an important role too.  If you sitting 8 flat hours on a chair, you have to re-think this seriously.  Butts seem to take on a life of their own in this way!!!    :o

Jazakh for all your replies here and IM.  I'll try them.

Al-hamdulillah, I'm not too fanatic about it, but always critical.

Jazakh again.

[slm] I am curious about yoga....

what is it all about...i mean i only know yoga by it's lotus position, but there is so much more to it.

Also, with the chanting etc. would yoga be permissable in Islam?

Looking forward to some enlightment on the subject :-) Insha Allah

sorry for the late late reply, but I haven't visited here in a few...

Yoga is very good for the body, but I got into Pilates instead.  Pilates is a workout that strengthens the "powerhouse" of the body, the mid-section.  It is the Abs, Thighs, Lower back, and Buttocks.

I use the video series called "Winsor Pilates" and they are absolutely wonderful. At first it is very challenging but after a couple weeks you really notice how much stronger your body becomes.  You do a lot of stretching at the same time as doing the exercises so your body feels so lengthened and more flexible each time you do it.

It has so far made a huge difference for me and I still have a long ways to go, but it definitely does work.

I am also wondering because you say no matter how many sit-ups you do its not working... have you ever been taught the correct way to breath while doing them?  Your breathing needs to be done so you are exhaling and pulling your stomache towards your back as you are contracting/working the muscles.

And also, if your like me, the abs are the last to get toned and flat!!!  But sit-ups or Pilates or Yoga alone will not bring the muscle tone to show through if the muscles are covered in some layers of fat.  You do have to do fat-burning exercises like walking/jogging/aerobics to burn that off.  Keep up your hard work!! It will happen with time.
