Fact or Fiction?

[slm]  :-)

Is this Fact or fiction :-

1.  one i not permitted to hang clothes out, play outside etc. after Maghrib

2.  a while back i read in a book called "Upbringing of Children" that during the times of Asr and Magrib we should not permit children to play outside.  But after the Maghrib period is over, this should be fine.  The thing is, i read anything written by authors on the sub-continent with a tinge of salt.  Such books hardly ever contain valid reasons for their content and i find them to be more instructional that explanatory.  So, that is why i ask...is this fact or fiction?

3.  Especially at around Maghrib time on a Thursday, the souls of the deceased seek your Duahs

4.  Are the souls of the deceased in a position to hear or see the living?

5.  Am i committing a sin if i read the Fardh and not the Sunnat parts of Salah?  I hardly think that we are in a position to judge people who do this, but it was a discussion that had come about the other evening.  My thoughts are that it's fine if one performs only their Fardh behind the Imam.  I didn't have anything to back up my thoughts so i kept quiet.  Maybe i am wrong here?

6.  In the last days of the Prophet SAW's life, did the Angel of Death SEEK his permission prior to taking away his life?

7.  Was there an incidence when Bibi Fatima (RA) asked the Angel of Death to turn back?  I read The Sealed Nectar and didn't come across this story at all?  Yet, there are people who lecture this story in gatherings (?)

Um, I apologise in advance if you think these are trivial questions.  Insha Allah, please provide feedback on these?  Ta.

8.  What is LOBAAN, and what is it's significance (if any)

[slm]These are not trivial questions :)

1. don't really know. This practice also continues in my family.

2. We as children had to be in the house by Maghrib. Something to do with Jinns. I come from a ahle Hadith family, and many practices peculiar to the subcontinent are not present in my family, but some do remain, and I have had to question a few things as well.

3.  No, that is a practice which has no basis in the Quran and the Sunnah, but there are quite a lot of people who believe this, and in the Indo-Pak subcontinent these are from the Barelvi group.

4.  Seeing is out of the question, although Sufis believe in far more than seeing. There is a difference of opinion on hearing. Salafi scholars do not accept this. Some restrict this hearing to the prophet [saw]. The modern scholars (Jamaat-e-Islami, Ikhwaanul Muslimun, etc.) who want to bring about a reconciliation between sects, regard this as a minor difference, but usually try to keep a distance from this practice.

My own view is in conformity with the Salafi or ahle Hadith one, but I think the ahl-e-Tasawwuf do get to see things they believe in. One of my late colleagues used to have Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani come and pet him on his shoulders. I am friends with two brothers who take out Jinns from humans, and one of them claims to have met Sahabis. and my friend with whom I founded the Idarae Huqooqul Ibaad (Society for the rights of mankind) had a few dreams in which he saw and spoke with the prophet [saw].

I have no reason to doubt that these people think they are right. In the case of the prophet [saw], it is quite possible and there is an authentic Hadith to the effect.

5.  no you are not committing a sin by just sayingt the fard.

6.  Yes, I read this in a Hadith. The prophet preferred to meet the Maker.

7.  a lot of stories are told from sources that are not authentic. This is most likely one of those stories.

8. Lobaan: áæÈÇä is it incense? On burning it gives a pleasant odour. It has been used in religious ceremonies for ages. perfume and fragrance is rather pleasant, so it is used.

I could not find the posted topic in which i had said that you can't see Jinn, and others disagreed with me, but as I was looking for a hadith to support my answer for question 2, i came accross this.

In Islam Q&A a girl said she saw jinn in her home:

The questioner is mistaken in saying that she has seen a jinn, because the jinn can see but they cannot be seen by us.

Al-Shaafa'i said:
“Whoever is of sound character and claims to have seen the jinn, his testimony is no longer valid, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
‘Verily, he and Qabeeluhu (his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them’ [al-A’raaf 7:27]

–       unless  he is a Prophet.”(Ahkaam al-Qur’aan, 2/195, 196)

Ibn Hazm said: “The jinn are real, and they are creatures created by Allaah. Among them are kaafirs and believers. They can see us but we cannot see them. They eat, have children and die. Allaah says (interpretation of the meanings):
‘O you assembly of jinn and Mankind!’ [al-An’aam 6:130]
‘And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire’ [al-Hijr 15:27]

‘”And of us some are Muslims (who have submitted to Allaah, after listening to this Qur’aan), and of us some are Al‑Qaasitoon (disbelievers those who have deviated from the Right Path)’. And whosoever has embraced Islam (i.e. has become a Muslim by submitting to Allaah), then such have sought the Right Path.

And as for the Qaasitoon (disbelievers who deviated from the Right Path), they shall be firewood for Hell”’[al-Jinn 72:14-15]
‘Verily, he and Qabeeluhu (his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them’[al-A’raaf 7:27]
‘Will you then take him (Iblees) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me’[al-Kahf 18:50]
‘Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish’[al-Rahmaan 55:26]
‘Everyone shall taste death’[Aal ‘Imraan 3:185].”   (al-Muhallaa, 1/34/35)

Hence what the questioner has seen may be just her imagination or an illusion, or it may be jinn appearing in a form other than that with which Allaah has created them.
