Leaving Islam

Assalam alaikum Everyone, :)

If a person believes in the Oneness of Allah (swt) and Prophet Muhammad  [saw], as well as the other Islamic beliefs yet they stopped practicing completely does that mean they left the fold of Islam? Any advice on how to bring someone back from that state?

Stephanie  :-)

This sadly happens with many MUSLEMS thinking  as long as they pronouce the  shahada that is enough atleast to remain MUSLEM but that is  wrong ,if THEY  dont  do it practicaly specially the  SALAH(PRAYERS) that means  they left the ISLAM

Well the only way to bring the person  back  is to  make DUAA for him/her and try to athletically advise :)

your post had a view rate of 47 and zero replies. The reason is that there are two questions in this post. The first one deals with giving a fatwa (religious edict) on the "islam" or "kufr" of someone. I do not think anyone here wants to do that.

The answer to this question is that scholars disagree. There is this Hadith that says that whoever says the kalima, is free from the sword (of the muslims). Then there is one which says that the difference between Islam and kufr is prayers. The prophet [saw] expressed his anger at those who did not offer salah in congregation, and said if there weren't women and children in their house, he would ahve burnt those houses. Some qualify this Hadith as to whom it was applicable to.  We also know that the first Caliph declared Jihad against those who did not pay Zakah. The prophet [saw] did not compromise on the five pillars of Islam for anyone, but when new revertees sought exemption from Jihad, he did not insist upon it, saying that their offspring will be very supportive of this. The scholars also say that if anyone commits a major sin, and insists upon doing it, he becomes a kafir, etc. etc.

On the other hand, some scholars say that perhaps the severity of leaving these acts is not understood by such muslims, and we should give dawah rather than pronounce takfeer.

I can say from my own experience that I came back from committing grave sins to repentance and abstinenece, and from omitting the obligations to meeting them.

The second question is how do you get such people to get on the right path.

Once I asked my son to say his prayers. He said: "Papa, what is the hurry? When I am your age I will say them."

I said: "fair enough son, but do you have a guarantee you will reach my age?"

He did not say another word, but got up to say the prayers.

Find out why such a person is like this, and what will make him/her think about doing the duties etc., and then use the right approach for dawah. and make dua.

Sorry, can't be more specific than this. If you post the particular problems such a person has, and analysis of what would make him/ her tick, then perhaps others will offer more specific advice.
