Review of Heaven's Door
Part Two of Tazkiyat an-Nufus wa Tarbiyyatuha kama Yuqarriruhu 'Ulama as-Salaf The Purification of the Soul according to the earliest sources compiled from the works of Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali, Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyya, and Abu Hamid al-Ghazali collected and arranged by Ahmad Farid

Well this book is called Heaven's Door..(no it's not a cult that's Heaven's Gate!). It is part 2 of the Purification of the Soul, which is a beautiful little book about purifying ourselves. You might remember it has a waterfall on the front.

So this is the continuation of that book and talks about enjoining good and forbidding evil, fighting in the way of Allah, remembering death, punishment of the grave, day of judgement, heaven and hell. It's a very nice reminder and beautifully written. It has a ton of hadiths on all those subjects which are very insightful and deep.

I'd highly recommend reading it to anyone.

The only criticism of the book I have is when it talks about Jannah... it lists all the rewards of Jannah speaking to men. It's like duhhh there are places where the Quran is not gender specific, yet the book continues on and on about rewards of jannah speaking exclusively to men, leaving out all the hadith and verses that talk about the reward of women or for both.

This is why so many people think Islam is misogynist. Why do they translate everything as he when it refers to both? Why do they describe everything as beautiful companions for men, when women too will have mates? Anywayz, it's probably just me but that kind of turned me off at the end.

But other than that I'd give it  [] [] [] [] 4 bebzi's out of 5 :)
