Hallo from Florida!

Hallo from Florida!

My name is Karim, a revert (or convert, if you will) to Islam, now seven years.

I am very, very pleased to have found this website and hope to contribute well to it.  From what I have read, I have found it to be a very friendly, helpful, and insightful message board.  I cannot wait to get to know all of you.

I suppose that this is the part where I share a little bit of information about myself, so here it goes  ;)  I have been happily married to a beautiful asian woman for 13 years now.  She is a Christian, but accepts my faith.  Together, we have two wonderful daughters, ages 12 and 9.

I am an Asian Studies scholar by vocation, with modern Asian history as my specialty.  As well, I work as a student advisor at the local university (in the interest of privacy at this time, I would like to keep the university's name silent; perhaps I will say which one eventually) I receive great satisfaction from my work.

As well, I study Islam each and every day, including a slow but progressive learning of Arabic.  I may never be fluent, but Allah (swt) is understanding.

I may be the most "white" muslim in the world.  In fact, I like to joke that I am so Caucasian that I show up on the Weather Channel's map as a snowstorm!  But seriously, I am English by ethnicity, which has led to some interesting moments.  For example, I have encountered those who have slandered Islam in my presence, only to backpedal profusely when I say that I am a Muslim!  It is a source of amusement, but I have also found it to be a great avenue for sharing Islam with others.  They say, "How can a guy like you be a muslim?  You don't look like one of those people! "  I laugh, and then get to share my story with them.  Most depart with a new understanding of Islam.

Well, that is all for now!  Once again, I am very happy to be here on the Medina Message Boards, and I look forward to meeting all of you.

Salam brother! Welcome to the board! :D

Thank you for your amusing introduction. It made me laugh!

I am from England, although not in ethnicity, but it still doesn't seem to stop people slandering Muslims!  :'(

:)

I've just joined the board a few weeks ago.  They are all a great bunch.  Very useful discussions and topics, and as you've already noticed everyone is very respectful to each other.... which makes a refreshing change! ;D

Mashallah, you are learning Arabic.  I wish to learn it too, as it's not my first language.  I've got a book but just haven't got round to reading it!  Inshallah, I stop procrastinating and get on with it!

Welcome again!  ;-)

Wa salam

P.S. When you say your an Asian studies scholar, do you mean Asian as its understood in the U.S., or Asian as it understood in the UK?  Or is it for all Asia? :)

I too am a "snow storm" muslim  ;D im English/Welsh/Irish/Romanian (yes i know bit of a strange mix ;) ) and i know exactly the ignorant people you talk about brother, the ones who back pedal!! lol! They view Islam as a ethnicity rather than a religion/way of life. May Allah (SubHana Wa Ta`ala) guide them to truth just as i was guided, one day perhaps these backpedalers will be brothers and sisters too!

Where are my manners?! :s

Ahlan wa Salan. InshAllah you will find this board helpful and beneficial, im new here too but ive already found it a great help.. enjoy  :)

Thank you all for your wonderful greetings!

In regards to my Asian Studies, it is for East Asia (Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Philippines, etc.).  I do note that in the UK, "Asian" is a reference to India and Pakistan.
