Salam,

Okay, I'm looking forward to the summer already..I've always wanted to start a thread on travel literature but never got around to it. Attia's thread encouraged to do it now. Any fans of travel lit? Would appreciate any good travel lit. recommendations.

As for summer reading lists I'm interested to know what other people have planned..I could always add more to my list.

My summer reading list so far:

I hope to read, insha-Allah

The Sahara

The Ornament of the World: How Muslims, Jews and Christians Created a Culture of Tolerance in Medieval Spain by Maria Rosa Menocal

One Thousand Roads to Mecca: Ten Centuries of Travelers Writing About the Muslim Pilgrimage by Michael Wolfe

Welsh legends and Folk Tales by Gwyn Jones

There are probably more but that's all I can remember right now..^_^

Salam,

Yeah I know it's kinda thick...But I only have the time to read thick books in the summer..it's the type of book I can read selectively anyway.

Road to Makkah.. newest addition to the list..Thanks ^_^

Haven't read it yet, but how about a translation of  The Travels of Ibn Battuta - he travelled the whole of the Muslim world in the 1100s or 1400s (can't remember which  ::) )

Bismillah 'ir Rahman 'ir Rahim.

The Road to Mecca is a very good read. Also, the first two narratives in the 1000 Roads to Mecca were very good. The more spiritual your state is, the better the read will be of course. So, with that in mind, I would recommend to whoever is reading this The Ninety-nine Names of Allah by Shems Friedlander. It's a slim, nicely-designed paperback available in major chain bookstores, and insh Allah, three months should be enough time to memorize all of the Names.
