[slm] Does anyone know approximately what time the Zenith appears? And how can you tell? |

[slm] Place a stick vertically in the ground and plot the shadow length as the day progresses -- as the sun climbs in the sky during the morning the shadow will become progressively shorter, when it reaches zenith the shadow will be at its shortest length. In the northern hemisphere it will also be pointing true north (not magnetic north) at this point. After the sun passes zenith the shadow will become progressively longer as the sun falls in the sky. Immediately after the sun passes zenith Zuhur prayer begins. Compare this time against the timetable in your community – in many cases community timetables of off. Zenith is generally [i]not[/i] 12:00PM. |

[slm] I like Mujahideen's answer. Brings us back to our roots of learning and understanding. :-[Yesterday, as we were sitting in a parking lot, Ali and I were wondering if we could pray Asr before Karate class began. So I took the moment, as a teaching tool, in the event one does not have a printed schedule with them. I explained the whole 1 1/2 shadow rule and had him lay in the parking lot to measure. (Can't imagine what the guy who walked passed us thought... :Da stick may have been a better idea... oh well) |
