[/color] INTENSIVE MASTER OF ARTS IN ISLAMIC STUDIES The Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences (GSISS) is proud to introduce an Intensive Master of Arts program in Islamic Studies. DEGREE REQUIREMENTS The program offers the opportunity for students to complete the 36 credit hour MA degree in ten months of full-time study, beginning in the Fall of each year. The program is designed for a cohort of students who attend consecutive, accelerated courses. The full-time program will also include an intensive Classical Arabic program which caters to all levels, beginners through advanced levels proficiency. COURSES The following courses maybe offered in the program: · Epistemology of Islam · Comparative Religion and Civilization · Quranic Sciences: the Quran and its Exegesis · Principles of Islamic Sciences · History of Islamic Sciences · Comparative Methods in Fiqh · Textual Analysis of Quran and Hadith · Fiqh of Muslim Minorities · Islamic Conflict Mediation and Intervention · Women and Family in the Islamic Context · Islamic Economics · Islamic Counseling · Theological Schools of Thought · Movements of Political Reform and Renewal · Prophethood and Politics · Islamic Social Systems · Introduction to Hadith · Muslim Presence in North America · Islamic Political Thought · Methodology for Dealing with the Quranic Sciences Fellowships are available for qualified candidates to the full-time intensive degree program. These scholarships include tuition waiver of both Islamic studies and the Arabic programs and a monthly stipend. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2004-2005 cohort.
