| [slm] wa rahmatullah This is a few days late, Abdullah's first birthday was a few days ago on the 8th of Rabi al Awwal. We didn't do anything special but I've just been in awe thinking about this past year. Subhan Allah this little creature that Allah entrusted us with has become the center of our lives... He's so tiny, yet he took over our lives, and our hearts, from the very beginning. He's a joy and a fitnah, he's a blessing and a burden, he's a sweetheart and a heartbreaker... It's been the most difficult year of my life, but the rewards are enormous subhan Allah. He's gone from absolutely helpless to this trying-to-be-independent-yet-still-very-dependent-almost-toddler. He still wakes up several times every night, but it's a joy for me to cuddle him next to me and nurse him back to sleep. He picks up every tiny bit of trash he can find on the ground and eats it, but subhan Allah Allah has protected him from harm every time. He doesn't eat much off his tray though (I've considered scattering his meals on the ground for him to pick up and eat :D) but al hamdu lillah he's healthy and very energetic. I am in awe that Allah gave us this perfect being. I am so grateful that he's healthy. As always I'm not very eloquent. The Ayah: "Wa amma bi ni3mati Rabbika fa haddith" ("And as for the blessings of your Lord, speak of them") is the reason I'm writing all this here. This blessing is too great to go uspoken. [img]http://www.mypages.iparenting.com/webs/abdullahimran/table.JPG[/img] my nephew used to hide in the closet, and he would take all sort of stuff with him there, so much so that his parents were constantly losing their watches, glasses, keys. take care wassalam |

| [slm] Hate to break the news to you ;), but it sure is hard to steer them away from this behavior. My three year old still does this from time to time, though she has also learned to eat from her plate too. It seems that used gum on the ground outside is a particular favorite. <<sigh>> I can usually get it before it actually makes it into her mouth, but every once in a while ... (where's the "gross me out" smiley when you need it!)
