[slm] I am trying to write a paper about islamic feminism and their views on hijab. I do not know where to begin :( this is a broad topic still... will anyone help me? please give me some idea/advice if you can... any suggestion/information will be greatly appreciated.... jazakallah kheir in advance ma salaama |

Salam, Erm.. It really depends on what you mean by feminism :D There are those that push for correct implementation of current traditional interpretations of the texts and those that go waaaaay in the other direction and consider it all one big metaphor. Some links that may be of use to you: Muslim Women's Leage (see Women's dress): http://www.mwlusa.org/ Karamah (actually, I don't think this mentions hijab, but interesting nonetheless): http://www.karamah.org/ and, of course.. Islam and women studies: http://www.arches.uga.edu/~sophieq/islam.html which includes some interesting articles on the question of the interrelation of standardly accepted "feminism" as a movement and Islam - some of the people mentioned on that site have books concerned specifically with the hijab, for example Fatima Mernissi's hijab and the male elite.
