Hijabi going to New York, Good Idea?

Now I've heard some stories about people being pulled up at JFK and stuff, so i'm just wondering if anyone here has ever gone to New york and had such experiences.

You see I'm thinking of going, but as a girl who wears the Hijab and Jilbaab  :-), people have said that i may get some trouble, within the airport and just from people there in general. So wat do u all think???, does anyone here actually live there??

Many thanks , Jazakallah Khair

Well I live in New york and work here also, But I dont wear a head scarf so my experiences are going to be different than yours. But from what I know its not that bad. New york City is quite diverse and people are somewhat more tolerant. From my friends who do wear a head scarf etc the most they get are a little extra stares now and again..but nothing dramatic.

Hope i was helpful. NOt sure about the airport experiences.

Salaams,
I went to Manhattan, all around there with my Model United Nations in April 2001 and 2002, I never had any problems. Of course, I was always surrounded by a group of non-muslims, but we went to Ground Zero with out any problem, the only security thing at the airports was when they asked me if they could pass the metal detector around my Hijab! :-* Maybe travelling alone or with other Muslims would have been different, I don't know

Hope this helps, don't let this ruin your trip to NYC, its a reaalyyy cool city to visit!
They have these sweet kebab carts on every block it seems!
