PART I: Dawn's Reflections

Everything is connected to everything is connected to everything is connected to everything is connected to everything is connected to everything is connected...

7:30am, London is not awake yet and I have emancipated myself from its bourgeois aesthetics that always sees an elegiac charm in decay.  And so I am turning and turning again, unable to decide whether looking outwards or inwards holds the most awed delight for my heart...

I break the mirror of a still puddle with a stone and watch the circles spread out until they are lost; wondering at its kindredness to the air which also has a circular motion when struck by my voice as I sing and chuck and imitate the sounds about me softly in the delighted experimental manner of a child. I revel in the lean health of my body as I bend to the ground to finger the rocks, seeing in them the earth’s bones with an anatomy of their own, caused by some remote seismic upheaval. I reach up again, stretching my eager fingertips to the skies and trace out the cloudlines as though I painted them myself, curling round and back down to the sea whence the congregation of drops evaporated, and to which they would return with the rainfall. So much artistry, so much connectedness streaming in through the whorls of my ears and eyes and nose and tongue and skin, filling my heart to the brim as I turn like a whirling dervish, enamoured of Allah’s wonders.

...man was called the microcosmos by the ancients, and surely the term was well chosen: for just as man is composed of earth, water, air, and fire, so is the body of the earth. As man has bones as support and framework for flesh, so the earth has rocks as support for the soil; as man carries a lake of blood in which the lungs inflate and deflate in respiration, so the body of the earth has the ocean which waxes and wanes every six hours in a cosmic respiration; as the veins emanate from the lake of blood and are ramified throughout the human body, in the same way, the ocean fills the body of the earth with an infinity of veins of water...

...for in the creation of the heavens and the earth, there are indeed signs for men of understanding...

That does it...my eagerness to run out into the day is too much, I obey it now before the sun sets on my life...

Your writing as always is superb :-)

It's strange how London can look so beautiful when it's quiet (and half empty :P)
