As Salamu Alaikum, thought i would share this article with everyone....
Licence to chew - but only for 'sick' Singaporeans Singapore - For 12 years, Singaporeans lived in fear of being caught committing the heinous crime of chewing gum. Now gum is being sold for the first time since 1992, but only at chemists, and only after customers have supplied names and identity cards...
Anyone from Singapore here who can explain why the Govt took such a stance against chewing gum :o wow ;D |

[slm]
Anyone from Singapore here who can explain why the Govt took such a stance against chewing gum
The import and sale of gum in Singapore was banned in 1992 because of the cost of cleaning up gum spat out in public transport systems. ::) In one fell stroke, an administrative headache for public transport operators, which was also a public nuisance for the majority, was cured by the ban on gum... Alhamdulillah, its almost 12 years since i have sticky gums stuck on my shoes! ;) Salaams Nora |
