I would like to have 5 magazines for our Masjid's library. Including one/two Children's Magazine.

What are your top choices?
( I have no clue what is out there...)

PS... the UK magazine, Voices, published my post, on this message board, about my first janaazah washing. If you get it please check it out!

I just recieved the copies of the Magazine..thanks!

I'd recommend Islamica magazine and Q News magazine. There are some back issues of Q News online if you want to check it - quite a variance of articles..

Mine are Golf Digest, Sports Illustrated  (you probably do not want the swimsuit issue), Outside magazine, national Geographic and White Water Monthly.

[slm] Kathy,

I would think that Al-Jumuah would be a given.  Another magazine that I have found really interesting is The American Muslim.  You can check it out at www.americanmuslim.org.

my friend had something called "islamic bulletin".It was pretty good.
Only thing is that it was from 2000. So, I don't know if they still have it.
check www.islamicbulletin.com
the price for the whole year is only $25! i think its worth it! ;)

There are some magazines I would stay away from, definitely.

Al-Jumah though is an excellent magazine and one you should have.

Which ones wouldyou stay away from?

I think it basically depends on what ideology/interpretation of Islam you follow Kathy. For example, al-Jumuah magazine has a fiqh section q&a section based on islamqa.com, whereas Q News has a fiqh q&a section delivered by the sunnipath.com imams.

I will also recommend Islamica magazine as an indepth, researched quarterly. No relation to the Islamicaweb forums :)

First off, Al Jumuah magazine has been around far longer then islam-qa.com, and I wasn't even aware that it had a fiqh q/a section, but the articles that have appeared in there over the years are real heart warmers and filled with references to the hadiths used in the articles.  In the past Kathy I've sent you some of the articles.

The ones that Mossy mentioned, though Q-news is on the border.

Hmm.. It's been a while since I've read a copy, but doesnt' al-Jumuah have a fiqh matters section? Still, as I said it does depend on which type of interpretation you vaguely follow as articles are influenced by that.

Looking back I recommended Islamica twice and that seems to be the one br Bhaloo has a beef with. Oops.

Its always a good idea to have a balance of views and that is true for a magazine collection too I guess. As mentioned already, every publication is influenced by a certain ideology and that is fine. Q-news and Islamica will make good additions to the collection as well as al jumuah. Seasons look good too.

Sorry I've just come across your post now - you were talking about this post right?
I'd recommend the following:

For under 10s = Al-Atfaal, this is really good for the young ones

For those between 10-25 = VOICES, one of the best non-partisian magazines out there and concentrates on muslim social problems!

For 18+ = Impact International, a number one in international affairs

Also I'd recommend Al Jumuah - a very good all rounder family magazine

Try and get Al-Talib as well, published by the students from UCLA - its really good.

I haven't read Islamica but was at a launch seminar earlier this year. Their magazine looked like a journal with lots of info. I'd definitely try and get hold of a copy if I were you.

Another one = Insight, very good and similar to Voices.

I looked at the emel magazine link and they don't have anything to read online. It looks like a good magazine but a bit too expensive :-(

Assalamu alaikum,

Out of interest, is the INSIGHT magazine still in publication.  I renewed my subscription
well over 6 months ago, but havent heard anything from them, despite trying to contact
them by phone, e-mail, (and subsequently no replies) etc.  I really looked forward to
receiving it in my post, but seems like its out of production or something? :(
Is anyone else having this problem, or just lil 'ol me?
