Islamic Studies, but where???

I am finding that the more I learn the more hungry I become.
This is a good thing  :)
I would like to go to a school for islamic Studies. Insha Allah
Can someone make some suggestions?
I am willing to travel.
Some have already suggested Jordan and other places outside the US.
I am considering them, but am wondering about US places.

What is required? If you have studied in Jordan or elsewhere can you please tell me about life there? The school?
Thank you

Why go far when there are places here.  Check out American Open University, it has information based on authentic Islamic sources and insha'Allah you'll learn a lot.

Thank you Bhaloo, I checked out the web site you gave above, it looks awsome and I had a few questions so I already emailed them.

What would your recommendation be if one wanted a classroom enviroment?
To interact and ask question?
Thank you

almost every big US university has an Islamic Studies department. however, they are mostly orientalist, but you could still take some classes if you were interested. there are quite a few places to study in the DC area, like AOU as mentioned (which also have correspondence classes) and SISS (talk to nuralayl) and others...

i would not recommend going overseas to anyone unless they have already done some islamic studies in the US.

look at these sites:

1. International Islamic University at Islamabad, Pakistan
http://iiu.edu.pk/

The description is a little out of date. It was (not is) located at Faisal Mosque, Islamabad. Now it is in its own property at Islamabad.

2. International Islamic University in Malaysia.

I recommnd to find someone who can teach you first.before you can make a trip to any where
take your lessons from a very close trustowrthy person and focus at the basic lessons which you can find anywhere, then you will gradually know how to chose the place and saurces to learn from
there are books like RIAD AL SALIHEEN (this teaches you all the authentic hadiths of the prophet [saw]
FATAWI ISLAMIYAH (islamic verdicts ) this gives you answers for many questions
you can learn from these books so easily and are more reliable  [wlm]

Also, another program related to American Open University is AlMaghrib University.  It is not distance learning, but rather they offer 2 weekend classes at different locations in the country.  You can check them out on www.almaghrib.org

My experience with it has been amazing, alhamdulillah, I took one class with them.  I think the next few classes they are teaching are Tafseer of Surat alBaqarah and The Evolution of Fiqh.

I hope this helps  :) !

I would second the suggestion for Islamic American University.  From what I have heard, they also have special programs for new Muslims.  Their web site:

Now that summer is upon us, there are several short term Islamic intensive programs in different parts of the country coming up.  These are excellent introductions into things, good spiritual atmosphere, a chance to meet other Muslims, etc.

There is an upcoming Deen Intensive program in northern California, registration and such can be found at www.rumibookstore.com.

Deen Intensive, Inc. hosts a 3 week long program every summer towards the end of July into August in northern New Mexico.  I recommend it very highly.  Information on this year's program can be found at www.deen-intensive.com.

I hope this helps.
