Lilith the Demoness

In the Hebrew (and maybe Christian) tradition, Adam's first wife was a woman called Lilith, before Eve. She was kicked out of paradise because she refused to submit to Adam. She then turned into a demon type being. (Or something like this).

I was wondering, does anyone know whether she is mentioned in the Islamic tradition?

strange story never heard of it....

I am not sure what bro lightening said...but from an islamic perspective can it really make sense?

-Was Eve/Hawa ever told to submit to Adam (AS) ?
-Were any humans ever told to submit to other humans?

The creation story is spread out across the Quran...and all of what we need to know is included. The whole idea of a woman being the "evil temptress" is not part of the Quranic world view. Wa Alhamdullillah for that. The emphasis is put on shaytaan as being the rebel and both Adam and Hawa faced the consequences of the mistake they committed (as in coming down to earth)..but both were forgiven.

As far as some woman turning into a demon; that sounds like a part of the other traditions that already held very negative views on women.

From reading the Quran, what would give you the idea that Islam may hold even something close to such a view ???  i guess that's the part i am not getting.

If submission means taa3ah or obedience, then yes.  We are ordered by Allah (awj) to submit to our rulers and those put in authority over us (ulul amr), as long as they do not disobey Allah (swt) and His Rasul [saw].

And the husband is ulul amr over his wife, and the ahadith of the Prophet [saw] exhorting the women to be obedient to their husbands are numerous in addition, of course, to the ayaat from the Qur'an.

But if submission means ibaadah or servitude in the sense of worship, then that is due solely to Allah (swt).

Wallahu ta'ala a'lam.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.

bro Abuhamza with all due respect, ta'a3a is never translatable into submision. Submission has all the connotations of servitude, or worship, submission as in to Allah and no one else.

Ta3'a when it comes to other humans, including the husband, is qualified in numerous other ayahs that talk about "do not obey the transgressors", "the liars", "the munafiqeen" etc. Ta3a'a is only relevant within the realm of Mubah (or things that are permissible) but even a parent whose obedience is put only next to Tawheed, is qualified by the clause of not disobeying Allah in the process.

Ta3'a also connotes the meaning of Istita'a3 which means ability, and this is a further qualification to the obedience. You are only to obey in realms within your capacity to do so...

There is also the command to Shura/consultation..which was embodied perfectly by the Rasul  [saw] when he consulted with his wives in various circumstances.

To me submission is whole, there are no buts, ands and oRs about it..that kind of wholesome surrender is due only to Allah. Obedience/ta3a on the other hand, is never blind, its qualified and remains only within the realm of already permissible and negotiable aspects of life.

Wallahu Ta'ala A'alam.
