Revising Qur'an

Alhomdolilah, I have memorized lots of Qur'an, including all of Juz Amma, and most of Juz Tabark. Even though I have memorized a lot of it, it's hard for me to revise it. How do you revise Qur'an? Maybe it can help me. Thanks. ;-) :-)

my first response is to scream :o. since in my language "ya'!" means something close to subhanallah.
next, then I need to say what do you mean by revising, do you mean reviewing? or something like that? do you mean recite?
I dont know the answer to any of these questions, but the idea of revising the Quran is enough to make me want to crawl under the bed until doomsday passes.

Nageen, that's very good masha'Allah.

Just keep reading those ayat in your prayers.  Also, involve your father with your revisions.  Every week, sit down and go over one juz with him.

al-ajnabia, Nageen is talking about going over what she memorized from Qur'an so that she does not forget it with time, she did not mean re-interpretting it.

take care

ok got it now, but why do they call it revising? And I want to know who the english teacher was who decided to translate a concept such as "rehashing what you have learned" so that it shared a meaning with a word that seems to imply some form of tweaking?
oh well, good thing I decided to crawl out from under the bed, but then now I have one more conspiracy to ponder  ::).  I wonder how many other english speaking people took to their hidey holes when they found out that people all over the world are working very hard at revising the Quran?

My tips are to have a weekly schedule to do your memorisation.

Focus on three things:
1) Memorisation of new verses.
2) Memorisation & Strengthening what you've recently newly memorised in the last three days.
3) Revising everything else that you've memorised in a cycle fashion.

(2) & (3) are particularly important because generally the more you memorise the longer it will take for you to revise all what you have memorised.

Have someone to listen to what you've memorised (this will weed out mistakes).
Listen to the bits that you've memorised in the car, at home on CD/tape.

Mashallah  :)

What I usually do with my son(I think he is the same age as you) is that he recite one surah every night before going to bed. Another way we tried was that you can listen to CD's  and recite with it.

I've heard that people who seriously intend to memorize the Qur'an read it once a month at the start. As they get used to reading it then they read more pages in less time. After they have memorized it, then the read the whole Qur'an every three days.

Maybe you could refer to the above and plan a schedule according to how much you have memorized, and also your capability.

Assalaamu'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

May Allaah bless you and your efforts in memorizing the Qur'aan and may He make it easy for you.

There's this awesome, very helpful lecture by Sh Muhammad alShareef on this :
Written In Stone: Tips on Memorizing the Qur'aan . There's a cd version available and a written version is available here.

I just checked your profile and am impressed that MashaAllaah someone so young is striving hard in the deen. I know of two girls who are around your age who are struggling with the same issues. If you like you can checkout their blog and discuss things inshaAllaah at http://muslim-kidz.blogspot.com

Many many duas and may Allaah be with you and bless you

Assalamu Alaikum

why don't you play your favorite recitor(s), and as they recite, recite along with them?
