| [slm] Im taking a German reading class this summer, and my asignment for tomarrow is to sumarize an article from the June issue of Der Spiegel. Well my German isnt the greatest, but I was curious about the way such a mainstream non contriversial german publication would deal with the israeli palestinian issue so I gleaned through that article. The problem is it is well, it is like a display of exotic animals piece. It is blurbs from 90 minute interviews with three people who failed to blow themselves up and are now is israelie jail. When I first chose the ariticle I thought it would be more ballanced, with one person in jail, one student and one Imam, but all three of them are in jail for the same thing, and only the statements like "my mother still hates you even though you bulldozed her home" made it to print. There is one statement which I think translates as "only a two state solution will work" or something like that, but I guess the whole thing is like the american press used to be about ten years ago on the subeject with absolutely no other reson for why these people went about things the way they did except some blurb from the Quran twice translated and just general hate. Any way, I dont have time to read another article, and I am interested in hearing suggestions on how to get through tomarrows class without getting expelled. I plan on recording the class incase of outburst by others, but I wont get to present even my own voice in response to acusations based on fabricated quotations if a couple of the darlings decide to express their more rabid side. well, Ill just pray, and blandly sumarize what is there in print and hope for the best. |
