| Assalam-Alaikum Well i kind of have a problem. See i know it might be weird but i have a dream of being an actor. Now i kno it isnt allowed in the Islamic religion. So that is my prob. I dont kno what i should do. See i reeeeeeeeally want to be an actor . Its been a passion for a while. so i was wondering should i forget about my dream and probably regrett it for the rest of my life or should i pursue it. Thank you very much for ur time . | [wlm] why don't you try putting on a play or some skits with some sisters in your area? i know of this muslim girls group in maryland that produces professional quality plays and even travels around the country putting them on in different communities for sisters. they are very well written and acted out... |

We know job is a part of IBADA, so we remember and ask ALLAH to bless our work ,can you ask ALLAH to bless a scene not permitted in ISLAM? Why don’t you call it nightmare instead of dream and seek for the method of chucking out this aim,It is not a base to relate any achievement with previous dream .There are many other things you can be without prior plan and more prosperous than what you believed acting would bring to you and good luck Inshallah |

| i am sure there is some thread that explains it, but why can't you be an actor? is it because you will be on film? if so is it moving film only (that would be kinda weird since there was no such thing as either in mohamed's day.) or are stills banned also? If so, are muslims allowed to be interviewed on TV? What about your voice recorded? Salem, I think you need to go a little bit easier in your approach of bashing someones dream. |

| i think it really depends on the acting.. like for example sisters in front of sisters is no prob.. but like some of these soap opera things that go on...ain't gonna be too islamic with the stuff that goes on there between men and women u know what i mean... |

| [slm]... "ain't gonna be too islamic" Jannah? That's saying it lightly. It ain't islamic period. However and actor/actress done under Islamic conditions is fine like Adam's World (Arab version of Sesame Street). Making moral stories or like The Message where they didn't show the Prophet's (SAW) image or his voice. That's Islamic which is fine. Like Jannah said, Sisters w/sisters, like at Sister's night at ISNA, those sisters were hilarious. But if the poster was thinking about acting in movies where there are unIslamic activites going on and s/he knows that it's not allowed then Brother Salem is correct. I dreamed about being an Action hero cause I love Kung fu fighting and action thrillers (still do like those movies-hate the love scenes-they irritate me) but I didn't even think about doing it because I knew it was wrong and I was not destrout over it. You don't think twice or even once on something forbidden, you know. You know? There are better dreams that I'm sure the poster can achieve. Ma-assalaamah.... |

| [slm] I've also heard that there are some other conditions attached to acting being permissible. Some scholars say, for example, that men should not act like women and vice versa. Wallahu a'lam. |
