Had this fwded to me...thought it would be of some use to the more talented ones in our midst  ;)

[wlm] :-) (pretty sure the email address is 'yahoo.com' - not sure why it was omitted in the email)

-------------------------

Assalamualaikum,

As some of you may already know Shabina Khatri and I, Sana Khatib,
were interested in putting together a book called "Chicken Soup for the
Muslim Soul." In order to do so we had to get our book title approved by the
Chicken Soup Company. Unfortunately, when we suggested this book
title to them they basically told us not to even bother with it because they
were not interested in publishing a Muslim Chicken Soup book. Considering
that Chicken Soup published a Jewish and several Christian books, we feel
that we are being discriminated against and in response, we have contacted
CAIR to take action. Despite lack of interest from Chicken Soup, we have
decided to continue on with this project without the "Chicken Soup" name. We
don't want to give up on composing a book of inspirational stories written
by talented Muslims because we feel that such a book is important and
beneficial for many reasons. So, we still want to work on this
project and try to get our book published by another
company. However, this goal can only become a reality with your help!
That's right. We need you to write us stories. We are offering a
generous cash prize to whoever sends in the most inspirational story, if this
story ends up being published. The deadline for sending in stories is July
10th (earlier submissions would be very much appreciated). If you are
interested in helping, writing a story or getting feedback on our progress,
please e-mail us at muslimstories@y... Don't miss out on this wonderful
opportunity to benefit many Muslims across North America with your
story and to have your voice heard. We look forward to hearing from you
inshallah.

Please feel free to distribute this e-mail to others and spread the
word.

Sana Khatib and Shabina Khatri

Story Guidelines:

We are looking for extraordinary stories about your experiences as
Muslims living in North America. These stories should be inspiring and
preferably have a moral and a happy ending. Some examples include:

An experience with a sister who decided to wear hijab or jilbab
Struggles of growing up as an Canadian/American Muslim
The challenges and/or sucesses of getting married Islamically

Or anything else that is interesting to read. The story should be
about 2-4 pages double space`. Please submit stories to muslimstories@y...
Include your name, e-mail, age, gender, and phone number at the top
of the e-mail and cut and paste stories into the e-mail. Brothers and
sisters are  both invited to write stories.

i was thinking that retreat goers should send some of thier writings...
but if you are worried about your intentions changing dont ask for any cash, just do it for the sake of Allah so that you may benefit others who may never have experienced the process of tazkiyyat-un-nafs.  i think that what the retreat bring out of people (the essence of true struggle for true happiness in this dunya) should be shared with others - as an inspiration for them to attempt their struggle.

what people go through at the retreat, or any retreat is intensely personal. they don't really like to share it or their thoughts unfortunately. believe me i've seen some amazing writings and reflections and poems... but its shared only within the scope of the camp. maybe if we keep asking people one day they'll post em ;)
