| Assalamu Alaikum, Some of you may have seen my post in the Madina Minaret advertising the Companionships event being held in the Washington DC metro area this coming August. Well, we've been pretty busy trying to get the word out there to anyone who might be interested. Anyways, first, I'm trying to do some field research and I figured that this board would reach a pretty wide spectrum of people. -For those of you who are looking to get married, how would you feel about attending an event where its pretty obvious that the participants are there for the purpose of marriage (ie, Muslim Gatherings, ISNA Matrimonials, Companionships etc) -Is there anything that the organizers could do to make it more comfortable for you? (ie, seating arrangement, certain session topics, etc) -What kinds of things would you like to see at such an event? (ie--plenty of time to interact with people you "match" with, interview time, fun group activities, sessions about marriage in Islam, etc) -How would you suggest marketing such an event? My experience has been that if you know that your friends are going..you will be more likely to go. So I'm trying to spread the message by word of mouth, encouraging my friends to tell their friends and their friends to tell other friends, etc. -Have you all heard of Imam Mohammad Magid from Northern VA? Masha'Allah, he is so wonderful, and in fact he's a counselor as well, so having him as the main speaker/Imam for this event has been a huge asset. He makes everyone feel very comfortable, and he's very easy to talk to, and his sessions are light and interesting. But of course, he's not that well known except to people in this area...so its hard to market... -If you have the time, I'd love for you guys to check out the website and let me know what you think needs to be improved/what looks good as is, etc...its just that its my first time being part of an event like this, and I'd really like to bring some of your input to the table. Like, is it easy to navigate, does it give you the info you'd like, is there something more you think is missing, etc. Participants will have the oppurtunity to register online, and fill out a short questionnaire about themselves as well as about what they are looking for in a spouse. Then, a week before the conference, they'll be able to see the number of people registered who meet their criteria. | [slm] I just wanted to say that I had the opportunity to listen to Imam Magid yesterday and the day before at ISNA's 4th of July South Regional Conference. He spoke about various topics including a topic on marriage. I have to say that I was very impressed by this man, may Allah (awj) reward him, and I would encourage anyone who is looking to get married, looking to enhance their marriage, or looking to save their marriage, to try and seek out opportunities to learn from him. | salam :) i think the site is absolutely beautiful mashallah! :o i wish i could go!! a friend im'd me the site, and i im'd it to another and we were all talking about how it was cool that you had good topics and fun things like community service types of activities! i think that's a great way to get to know people and see how they handle problems, etc. personalities really come through in a situation like that! and to have imam magid there is wonderful! i heard him speak once at isna, and i think it's awesome that he is a counselor and that the adams masjid has him available for marriage counseling. wasalam :) |

| Assalamu Alaikum, Thanks for the replies! Yes, Alhamdulillah, I think the designers did a great job with the website! Now, we're just REALLY pushing registration.. but you know how Muslims are...last minute!! So, we're getting a decent amount of traffic to the website, and a decent amount of emails showing interest, but people are taking their sweet time signing up! :) But seriously, Imam Magid is SUCH an asset to this program..In fact..he IS the program. He is so nice and so warm and comforting, I think he's perfect for these kinds of things.
