(Before you read this: I am making a distinction in this post between Jesus Christ (the Christian figure, who is misrepresented according to Muslim belief, and Hadhrat Isa (as), the Prophet, since I don't want to say anything wrong about him.)

Okay so brainy book.  I bought it yesterday, and haven't been able to put it down since I started reading it.  I'm almost finished, but I now have a 101 questions that I need answered.  Okay so don't read this if you don't want me to hint at the book's theories, although I assure you I can't summarize the book in a few paragraphs.  I just want some Islamic explanations for a few things:

First off, is there ANY authentic reference (Qur'an, Ahadeeth) of Mary Magdalene?  According to the novel, she was the wife of Jesus Christ.  The book says that the Church (to propogate some sort of hidden agenda) made her out to be some sort of prostitute.  Also according to the novel (yes, the novel is fiction), this woman had a child who is supposedly the child of Jesus, and through whom there is still a lineage of people who exist today.  The novel actually says that there's a group of people who believe in the mortality of Jesus, but the Chruch's politics made it more profitable for him to be viewed as a divine creature (na'oodhubillah), which is why he was then revered as the 'son of God.'  But the existence of his wife and daughter prove his mortality.  (Okay, the book explains it WAY better, so I recommend you read it out of interest's sake).

I don't know if any of you have read it (author: Dan Brown), or if any of you have any opinions on the whole situation (which is really quite baffling, especially if it's true).  Anyway, it would be interesting to have a discussion on this, if not from a Muslim perspective, then Christian or even historical...

Wasalaam.

Yes, I have read the book. I liked it for the suspense--but not for the ideas the author proposes. It all seems too unlikely and perplexing. I know that there is actually a group called The Priory of the Sion(sp?). But I don't believe the theories about Mary Magdalene and the exsistence of the "royal bloodline" -- unless it is mentioned in the Quran or hadeeth.
Hope that made sense..sorry couldn't answer your question.

[slm] Leonardo da Vinci

one of my favorite characters in  history.

but I do not recall reading about anything he postulated about Jesus (as). Somewhere else though I read that it was claimed Mary Magdalene was his wife, and they had a son, ec.

Years ago, perhaps even before a decade or so before the starter of this thread was born, I read a paperback called "The da Vinci Papers", I think, or was it some kind of time-travel fiction?

anyway this had drawings of all these fantastic inventions that are commonplace today, and the case was made that a person travelled back in time from the 20th century into the time of da Vinci

very convincing, it seemed at the time, although now i am not so sure. However, the fact that Leonardo made all these drawings at that time, is still unexplained.

Then there was another american best-seller (all american paperbacks are best-sellers, it seems), in which a hypothesis was put forward that we are descendants of people from outer space (what is inner space, btw?) and as a proof the author looked at the pyramids in the americas, and Iraq (the zaggurats), the astronomical and mathematical achievements of the Aztecs, and the direction to which all there work pointed.

pretty cool, I thought, although the word cool came into this use much later, so it wasn't cool I tought, it must have been some other word.

I love the americans for their imagination.

The Da Vinci Code?  I thought that was some kind of Christian and Jewish pattern found in the Bible and Torah to fortell the future Armegeddon including was 9/11.  I saw some documentary on that a while back, but about Mary Magdeline.

I have never heard or read anything about her from the Islamic perspective and we don't have that in our curriculumn when we teach about Isa (alay-hissalaam).  However, I've taken World Religion in college and found out about her there.  She is supposedly Jesus's first disciple and close freind.  Some claim to be a prostitute, but I think it was proven not so.  However, she was very close to Jesus.

In the Christian religion and may be Mike can help me out here, there is more to the many Bibles.  Some of which Christians decided not to include called the "Lost Scrolls".  The lost scrolls include the Gnostics- Essenes and the Gospel-Thomas and Mary Magdeline.  She wrote about Jesus and his religion.  You can actually find her piece in the libraries now a days. I wanted to check this out, but never had the time.

That's all I know about Mary Magdeline, however, not from an Islamic perspective.

Allah (SWT) bless...

Ma-assalaamah....
