| [slm] Do some research, Sorry my time on the computer is limited for a bit. I remember reading a hadith that if the wife is 'pleased' by her hubby first then it may be a boy. If the hubby is 'pleased' first it may be a girl. 'Pleased' in the ehm.... marital pleasure way. |

| [slm] all of these methods for sex selection are old wives tales. the only thing i have read in scientific reports is that the y-sperm has slower motility than the x-sperm, but lives longer. so, conception in the first period of ovulation is thought to have more odds in producing a baby girl, while conception in the later period of ovulation is perceived to have a higher chance in producing a baby boy. now this is much more complicated than it seems because the husband's sperm might not be equally populated by x and y sperm. i am sure there are more factors that i myself am ignorant of, which play an important role in conception. so, it is all in the hands of Allah. and you knew that already. make dua sister, that's the best you can do for now. visit a fertility clinic too, to check if there are hormonal imbalances that prevent a pregnancy. take care wassalam Mona |

As for why someone would want to select their childs sex, this is beyond me. Are we trying to bury our daughters in the wombs rather than in the sand? Or vice versa, whatever the case may be. | AA Kathy, I was looking for THAT hadith myself recently. Could not find a reference to it, though I know I've read it somewhere. Do you (or anyone else) have a reference to it? The reason I'm asking is that what has been reported in that hadith has also been proven scientifically, Subhanallah! I mean when I read this I was so shocked, that somehow this saying of Mohammed(SAW), when he could have had no idea about the science behind it, was proven true. I mean there are a lot of so called scientific "facts" which muslims claim the Quran contains, some of which are a bit grey, but this was beyond any doubt. Wa'alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullah, Perhaps u guys are looking for this Hadeeth: Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: While I was standing beside the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) one of the rabbis of the Jews came and said: Peace be upon you, O Muhammad. I pushed him back so hard that he nearly fell over. Upon this he said: Why do you push me? I said: Why don't you say: O Messenger of Allah? The Jew said: We call him by the name which he was given by his family. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: My name is Muhammad, which is how I was named by my family. The Jew said: I have come to ask you (something). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Will it be of any benefit to you, if I tell you that? He (the Jew) said: I shall lend my ears to it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) drew a line with the help of the stick that he had with him and then said: Ask (whatever you like). Thereupon the Jew said: Where will the human beings be on the Day when the Earth changes into another earth and the Heavens too (change into other heavens)? The Messenger of Allah (p). said: They will be in darkness beside the bridge. He (the Jew) again said: Who amongst the people will be the first to cross (this bridge)? He said: They would be the poor amongst the refugees. The Jew said: What would constitute their breakfast when they would enter Paradise? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: A caul of fish-liver. He (the Jew) said: What would be their food after this? He (the Holy Prophet) said: a bullock which was fed in the different quarters of Paradise would be slaughtered for them. He (the Jew) said: What would be their drink? He (the Holy Prophet) said: They would be given a drink from the fountain which is named Salsabil. He (the Jew) said: I have come to ask you about something which no one amongst the people on Earth knows except an apostle or one or two men besides him. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Would it benefit you if I tell you that? He (the Jew) said: I would lend my ears to that. He then said: I have come to ask you about the child. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The reproductive substance of a man is white and that of a woman (i.e. ovum central portion) is yellow. When they have sexual intercourse and the male's substance (chromosomes and genes) prevails upon the female's substance (chromosomes and genes), it is the male child that is created by Allah's Decree. When the substance of the female prevails upon the substance contributed by the male, a female child is formed by the Decree of Allah. The Jew said: What you have said is true; verily you are an Apostle. He then turned round and went away. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: He asked me about such and such things of which I had no knowledge until Allah gave it to me. Wassalam. |

| [slm] okay what my book says about this is basically what Mona said. But it also says that because the boy-sperm is weaker than the girl-sperm, it may be that current climatic conditions/gene manipulated food/the father's occupation/dangerous radioactive waves could have lessened the amount of boy-sperm that the father has, since they are very vulnerable to outside elements. So if it is a boy you are looking for, and have already tried timing intercourse *on the day of ovulation* without success, then you may want to have your husband go and have a semen analysis and also get his levels of vitamins and minerals checked out. If it is a girl you are hoping for, then you can do nothing more than try to have intercourse on the first day or two of your fertile phase and then leave it until ovulation has occurred. With a bit of luck all those speedy little boy-sperm will go looking, find nothing and die, and by the time the egg is released the girl-sperm will have trundled their way up, slow and steady. If you have never had a child before and are trying for a first child then you might have to get further issues checked out. However I would *really* recommend you get the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, or borrow it from your library. It has everything in it that you need to know. If Allah is gracious enough to give a healthy child, that is all that counts. But everyone has to make their own choices and decide what is best for them. |

| [slm] Based on the hadith supplied by the brother above and based on the advice given to me and hubby by an ustadz, here is the so-called formula : If the husband achieve orgasm first, the baby will most prolly be a boy and if its the wife, vice versa. Umm..no extensive and expensive research done in my side of the world on this but the experiences of many many muslimahs I know confirm this. Subhanallah. One word of caution, as always, Allah is the Ultimate Knower and Decider. PS Gender selection has nothing to do with feeling biased or discriminating against any particular gender. At least not for me and some of the sisters I know. We want children of both genders and Alhamdulillah we have been blessed. As to our reasons ? That remains our reason Inshaa Allah. Wassalam. |
