Hijabban-What would u do?

[slm] sisters:)

The Hijab-ban in France is gonna be reality for several of my friends this coming September...

Everyone has different ideas of what to do...

1) wear something else: wig/bandana

2) take it off, and only wear outside school

3) Start homeschooling/find another place to go to school

Everyone has asked me what I would do..I don't have an answer!!!  Although I was in a hijab-ban situation in school, I look back now, and don't think I could make the same decisions now that  I did back then, with the knowledge I have now...but then again, I didnt ave that knowledge back then, and the situation was different.

Is anyone gonna be affected by this?  What would you do? Or is it one of those hypothetical q's you can't really answer? (like me)

May Allah help the Muslims everywhere, and amke it easy for us to live Islam in its totality, ameen.

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah...

I used to go to a school that doesn't allow hijab - all of us have to wear uniforms - a short sleeved blouse and a knee length skirt. At that time, I'd only wear hijab outside school.. but now... I don't think I could ever, in my life, repeat that again. It'd be painful torture.

Since the school that they go to doesn't have uniforms, I'd go with wearing a big bandana, and on top of that big bandana, I'd wear a big hat. There are also big berets and hats where one can fit all the hair in. Then, wear a scarf around my neck or use turtle necks, long sleeve blouses/ dresses and long skirts. I'd probably look weird and ugly. But at least I know, I'd feel at peace, inshaAllah.

I remember it was fashionable for women once to wear hats, and have a thin scarf over it and tie it under their chin. That might work too. ALlahua'lam.

Some hats for ideas: http://www.villagehatshop.com/special_need.html

Otherwise, we can wear an English-style hijab. If you watch Robin Hood, or such period movies, the women cover all of everything. If its not becoz of a ruling not to look like Christians... we might wanna dress like a nun :)

Oh yes... there's also a general ruling of the prohibition of wearing wigs. Allahua'lam

[slm] what about hoods...you know, like the ones you have on the tracksuit tops.  Have hoods sewn as part of your loose tops or abayas and cloaks maybe.

Also, there are some nice African hats and clothing that might do the trick...kaftans and those headgear that the African woman use.

[slm]...

Sweet outfit.  Catch me wearing that someday and bring it back to fashion (with a few adjustments of course) :-) yeah that one.

Anyways, it's really offensive to have that like "law".  There must be some way to fight it.  I mean couldn't they allow it and say "Where hijab at your own risk" if what they fear is the Muslimahs being targeted for hate crimes?

Allah (SWT) is our protector.  What would they do if you wore it?  Ban you from going to that school?  Fine, look for another one, homeschool, whatever, no one makes rules against Allah's (SWT) rules.

Then again, Allah (SWT) did allow it if it was a life and DEATH situation in this case it might be.

If they allow nudist colonies and beaches cause we all know how the French love to live "freely" let "loose", COME ON NOW!!!

We are PROUD Muslimahs...and NO ONE can take that away from us.

It's a Dumb law and irrelevant to societies "danger".  It does not make a case at all.

Many du'as to you Sisters and Allah (SWT) bless...

Ma-assalaamah....

Fantastic outfit and head gear Sis Barr!  I wouldn't be ashamed to wear it all if I had to.

I went to a hindu primary school and a catholic secondary school...( and you wonder why i am so messed up??!!  ::) ) and in both places there was a "ban" on the hijab.

When i was old enuff to wear it, in primary school, my best friend and i, and eventually a buncha other girls, wore it *everyday* to class. The principal would come in, kick us out of school, we go call our parents they fight. Next day, we have it on again. The principal comes again, kicks us out, even cans us at times, we go call our parents, they fight. Again...

I mean it was fast becoming a school joke. And many girls started wearing it to just spite the "system". Eventually the principal got tired of harrassing us and wasting everyone's time...so they standardized the hijab, to match our uniforms and khallas problem solved.

In secondary school, it was an all girls school so not quite as imperative to wear it on school grounds. We used to wear our hijabs at the gate, and go home...but one day the principal messed with us, punished us and took our hijabs (cuz they were too colorful and clashed with the school colors?!). We got everyone involved from the mayor of the town, to any other big wig, to come fight for us.

From that day on, we were all allowed to wear matching white hijabs to our uniforms *in our classes!!!* They made the laws soooo stringent that the hijab had to be white, plain, etc. But it didn't matter..we won again:)

So i guess i am spoilt brat. If I was in France I'd prolly pull the same stunt. Keep wearing it, and fighting the schools, going to court, etc. If enuff people do it, and enuff disruption is caused...trust me they can't cling on that long to that crappy law...its based on a false premise..and false premises are easy to disintegrate.

anywho, just me not so brilliant ideas ;)

PPS: the above post is kinda misleading. my schools were both majority Muslim; my town was majority Muslim, and Islamic studies was part of the curriculum. Even the government didn't necessarily have a strong secularist backdrop. I have really nothing in common with those French sisters....since their struggle is much harder and their support system much weaker than ours.

May Allah give them strength and all the other sisters struggling around the world (Amin).

I clicked on one of the links, and I definitely don't think this is the answer:

:o[i] Sorry Bhaloo... don't want that African Head mask on 'my' site![/i]

WOAH!  Where did that come from Bro bhaloo?

Yeah definately not the answer or an answer for that matter.  Maybe you need to look at the hijab like head dresses and not the freaky masks.  But you're the one that clicked on the link and not me so...yeah...may be we shouldn't have a link that associates anything like the mask.  That's just not right.  It shows shirk, that's why.

Well, I spoke to a couple of Turkish sisters, who went through being banned at University becuz of Hijaab.  The one, decided that she would leave university, and mashaAllah, got married, and is very happy being at home with her 2 lovely little daughters. :-)

The other sister was 3 years short of completing her medical degree, and decided that she needed to complete her studies.  After looking for another uni, even outside the country, where she could continue her studies, she found that it would be "easier" to continue at home, and thus wore a hat/bandana/etc, just what she could, to try and get away from being totally uncovered.  There were days, when she would be forced to uncover her head, and this she said, made her "die inside"...but she made sure that she was always in a Muslima-only group, and it was not that bad, looking back, she thinks.

She is now also married, has 1 son, and lives in UAE with her family, and is working as a doctor there.  :-*

2 different paths...2 different people...

May Allah swt make it easy for all Muslims, I could not imagine having to be uncovered *ever* again in my life!!!
