Assalamu alaikum, I am desperate to learn Arabic. Please if somebody from you or your friends know of nice web site or good books and cd that are sold on-line, let me have the names. I need to learn with some exarsises back and lessons that motivate me to follow and check my progress as I have tried few very stagnant and it became difficult and I quickly am bored. How and from where did you learn Arabic?Anything will help - a good web site or good book/cd/cassets, just to be easy to understand with tests and exarcises.HELP! |

[slm] I don't know if this will be of any help. Here it goes: Try your local Masjid. They can teach you arabic there. Ask if they have Arabic classes and etc. Whatever you need in help it's probably there. I'm sure they can give you books, cd's and what you need. :) However, online are expensive stuff, but (from what I have told you.) it's cheap and free. [wlm] |

it's always better IMHO to learn from a real live teacher, I can;t imagine learning a language from cassettes or books or CDs. Try local colleges and night schools too, as well as mosques and islamic centres, there may just be someone teaching Arabic. There are some courses in the Middle East too - maybe some folks here have been there and can post info? I heard of courses in Egypt, Syria, Tunisia...? Living in the country for a while really makes a difference. You could try getting satellite TV in Arabic too, but then again maybe not, some of the content is pretty dire! A word to the wise: if you're a beginner start with "classical" or "standard" Arabic (fus-ha), NOT colloquial or dialect. All the dialects derive from fus-ha and you can pick them up later on; it is much harder to move from a dialect to clasical later on. And if you want to read Qur'an or Islamic texts, fus-ha is definitely the way to go. Wishing you every success in your studies in sha Allah. |
