Henna for hair

Has anyone ever tried it? I'm thinking about doing it but i'm getting mixed opinions...some say it might make my hair turn white, some say it strengthens...but wouldn't it be less harsh compared to the store bought colors. If anyone has had experience with this, please share...

[wlm] sis,
I tried it about 2 weeks ago, and its pretty messy(and smelly) ::).
But it does make your hair healthier. As far as color goes, it really depends on which brand you buy. And if you have dark hair, the 'henna' color is hard to be seen. I really prefer henna to store-bought dyes mainly because I am kinda sensitive to all those chemicals. And I don't wanna ruin my hair.
Btw, the smell doesn't go away until you wash your hair 3-4 times.
Hope that helps.

I've used henna on my hair. Yep it is very messy. Better get someone to help you so you don't inadvertently stain your ears/neck/forehead.
It is smelly, as the sis said. If you like the smell of henna that's fine.

And yes, it makes your hair really soft, healthy and shiny. It only dyes lighter coloured hairs - for eg if you have some grey, they will be dyed red and it looks like highlights. That's with natural coloured henna. I never tried the black or other coloured stuff.

[slm] Sis Shahida,

I am a regular user of henna on my hair (once a month) when I am not too lazy, i.e.  Smelly?  I like the smell.  Messy?  Yes but it makes your hair beautiful, healthier and great!  Love it better than any artificial colouring.  It is washable even if it touchs your forehead, neck and ears. I mix it with avacado and apply.  Wonderful effect.

Works for me!

Avacado!!! Never thought of that.  I usually add olive oil, to prevent drying my hair out.  (Okay, "usually" is misleading..I've only done it a few times).

Oooh now I'm hungry for the green fruit.

Wasalaam.

This is probably a lil late..but anyways..

Henna is so kewl. I've used it a few times, too. If you know anyone who's goin to Madeenah, ask 'em to get you some henna from there. Its specially made *for* the hair...tho it can also be used on the hands and whatnot.
Someone once told us this method that would colour your hair, make it strong, shiny and generally healthy. Um, its really strange...and smelly...but, like, I'll tell ya anyway; mix henna powder with water, coffee, lemon juice, egg yolk and some sort of essence oil or whatever. It'll turn out to be a dark brown gooey liquidy type thing that smells mainly of henna and coffee. :P Spread lots of it on yer hair and after about 5/6 hours..maybe more, maybe less (up to you), wash it and voila! You'll get beautiful, smelly hair that'll be red on former gray hairs and a light brown colour on the rest. But, I think the outcome of the colour depends on yer original hair type/colour. Wallaahu a'lam.

:)
