So, I've finally read 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho.  It's one of those books I kept meaning to read.  I have to say I was disappointed.  The book really didn't live up to my expectations, it seemed trite and ... ummm ... cliched. *okay I'm ducking now before you guys stone me or something!* :P

Seriously, I just didn't feel like I learned anything from the book ... it didn't touch me in anyway.  If you've read it - which I know many of you have - what did you think of it? What did you take away from it? Is there some element of the book that you'll never forget?

p.s what happened to Jannah's book club?

i read it about 6 years ago, and I hadn't really read something like that before, so I enjoyed it.  But you may have read lots of books since 'the Alchemist' came out which have similar themes, so this wasn't going to be stimulating for you!  Also, it's difficult to read a book which has been hyped up so much...that happened with me and 'the catcher in the rye' which i only read a couple of years ago and i thought it was bland and quite boring really.

I really need to start reading more books again...I started reading catch 22 6 months ago but didn't get very far
