The next Madina Baby is due in April 2005, Insha Allah. Please make dua that he/she will be healthy and pious.

Sisters - any tips/cures for "morning" sickness? I have been suffering terribly the last couple of weeks and while I am learning to live with it, I thought i would ask the experienced amongst you if you know of anything in particular that helps??

Jazak Allahu khayrun,
wasalaam
Eleanor.

Alhamdulillah...mabrook.  What a beautiful comeback news from you Ellie.  No more siccing a sheepdog at Barr now eh ? I had bad morning sickness for 4 months (although the sickness lasted from morn till nite  :P ). What worked for me is taking small bites throughout the day instead of huge meals.  Altho food is prolly far from your mind you HAVE to eat because not doing so will make it worse.  Take naps cos exhaustion will aggravate the situation.

I am so happy for you.  May Allah SWT Ease your pregnancy and Bless the baby in your womb...

Wassalam

Assalamu alaikum sis
Mabrouk!! may Allah make your pregancy and birth easy... Relatively I mean  ;)

For morning sickness one thing that helped me; perhaps the only thing, was ginger tea.  I grated fresh ginger into boiling water and added a little honey for sweetning.  I had a big bottle of it with me the whole day at work.  btw I had it cold because hot tea makes me feel kind of queasy even on normal days.

Another thing I'd advise is don't go to websites and read other womens' morning sickness stories!!!  I did that and it made me reaaaally sick!

Mabrook sis!!!  Aaaaah, I want one !!!!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

No one really knows exactly what causes morning sickness but it is probably caused by a number of factors such as insane hormone levels, falling blood glucose (blood sugar), sensitivity to smell etc.

Many people suggest taking a spoonful of honey or eating a cracker as soon as you wake up to get your sugar up.

For me, processed foods and bad smells set me off the most.  About the only thing I could eat was salad, fresh grilled chicken breast and water.  That is until around the fifth month and whoa baby I started eating everything I could get my paws on. :(   They say it's important to keep a littlle something in your stomach at all times because having an empty stomach just exacerbates the problem.  For me, normally i would puke, take a couple deep breaths, sit down for five minutes and then I would be fine.

Seriously though, morning sickness can be dangerous if it is extreme, so watch for dehydration.  Try your best to keep down those prenatal vitamins.

Much love and may Allah make it easier for you, [wlm]
your sister in Islam :-)

Masha-Allah Mabrook WOOHOO  Allahu Akbar.  A great gift from Allah (SWT).

Morning sickness....elkh...makes me sick thinking about it.  Morning sickness, it does a number on you.  How to defeat it, what works for others might not work for you.  So try things with care.  Take it easy.  Crackers, yoga for the expectant mother, and lots of rest.  Don't work too hard, but don't be lazy.  Take time for yourself to relax and meditate.  Praying helps.  RELAAAAAXXXXX......deep breath in, deep breath out, and drink lots of water, juice, and milk.  Fruits and vegetables.

What helps is none sweet vegetables like celery.

Many du'as for you and your baby and Allah (SWT) bless...

Ma-assalaamah....

ALF Mabrook, sis Eleanor!  I was gonna ask..alhamdulillah...:)

May Allah bless you and the little one, and make him/her grow strong, and ease your pregnancy symptoms, and give you everything you need to make it through this wonderful, but drastic time, inshaAllah!

Can I come and deliver the baby?  I dont really LOVE Obstetrics, but I would be willing to make an exception for you :-*

Take care of yourself, avoid those things that make the morning (also known as ALL-DAY sickness for some women), other than that, I have no idea...you and baby are in my Duaas:)

Salam
Shahida :-)

wow! thank you everyone!

Momma Mod, I think I had *just* conceived when you asked, so no, I didn't know - but somehow you did - masha Allah.

Yeah, for me it is all-day sickness. In the morning I am okay-ish but it gets worse as the day goes on.
The sisters are all right! It is terrible, I repeat, terrible if you get hungry! So my main mission is not to get hungry! But it is sooo hard to eat anything when you are nauseous!
So far the only thing I am guaranteed to eat is a chicken burger! I don't feel like I want one, or don't feel in the mood for it, but when i get it I eat the full thing. Alhamdulillah.
Peppermint tea has been good and dry rusks.

Shahida - of course you can come and deliver my baby!!! How awesome!! I would love that. In fact I would probably just stay at home and have my own DOCTOR attend to me!!! Masha Allah. So keep an open window in April okay?  ;)

Aiiiight.. just had some tea and bread and jam, Alhamdulillah. Can't go to bed hungry.

Jazak Allah for all the duas. You truly are a Madina family! sniff sniff  :'(

Congratulations Eleanor & Hubby.  :-*

This is where I have been keeping track of baby's progress.  It shows ultrasound photos and description on the progress each week of pregnancy.

http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/pregnancycalendar/l/blwbw.htm

You can find the belly gallery also but don't worry about looking like them. We are all different and will have unique pregnancy experiences. I think all the experienced mothers in here would agree to that. Just a warning though, since it is a BELLY gallery, they will be showing their belly uncovered. If you're lucky you'll see animated belly gallery of this lady from 1st to 9th mths.

Here's something cute for you to track your due date.

I think it's too early to put links on birth plan, real nappies vs disposable diapers and baby sling.
