Anyone going to the coming AlMaghrib Class in New Brunswick (Evolution of Fiqh)??  It's for 2 consecutive weekends, Sept 10-12 and 17-19.  I'm sure others on the board can attest to this as well, but my experience with AlMahgrib has been amazing.  Anyways, you can go to www.almaghrib.org to read more about it.  I do know that they ususally sell out before the event though, so if you want to go, I'd say to sign-up ASAP.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

br. saam, I heard that Sh. Abu Ammar was planning on going overseas to study.. do you know if this is true or if he has changed his plans?  I've been looking forward to hearing him since I moved to Houston, but I've been told he is leaving the country at the end of the summer.

I attended the Endowment dinner for Al Maghrib out here and Sh. Muhammad's plan and vision for al-Maghrib is truly outstanding.  I really feel like al-Maghrib Institute has the potential to develop a generation of new scholarship in America in the coming years, insha'Allah.

I know Sh. Yasir Qadhi is definitely studying in Saudi Arabia; I'm pretty sure Madina University.  But from what I understood, he is near the completion of his studies, at which point he will begin to teach classes for AlMaghrib.  I'm pretty sure he won't be teaching anything this semester, since it seems the classes are already planned till Dec, and I haven't seen anything from him.  InshaAllah, in the Spring (or maybe summer) it seems he will be teaching here.  I think his focus will be on teaching Aqeedah classes.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

jazak Allahu khayran for the info br. saam..

barr, from what I understand, Sh. Muhammad's vision is to make al-Maghrib a means by which Islamic knowledge will flourish, not just in the United States but in the WHOLE world!!

Basically his vision of al-Maghrib thus far has been to enable people to study Islam seriously, with a goal in mind (a degree in Islamic studies) instead of picking up knowledge in an unorganized manner here and there from various conferences and camps (though conferences too have their benefit).  Often times our classes of learning, conferences, and halaqas are not at the level of quality that they should be, nor do they have a goal or long term plan established.. it's like: "We're gonna have Friday halaqas on the five pillars.. every Friday.. *forever*" :P  They often have a cycle of the same basic information, because of the lack of seriousness and dedication to the task of learning by both teacher and attendant.  So Sh. Muhammad likened this style of learning to a rocking horse -- there seems to be movement, but in truth you're not really going anywhere.  We may be attending a ton of Islamic events, but our knowledge is not really progressing or increasing.

So, al-Maghrib is intended to change that rocking horse into an Arabian stallion :)  With quality teachers, material, curriculum, level of organization and professionalism, and a set goal in mind for the students (to complete a degree in Islamic studies), al-Maghrib can help an individual learn Islam on a more serious level and in turn increase the level of knowledge that is so badly needed in our communities.

Sh. Muhammad's vision for the future, from what I understand, is to take al-Maghrib to the international level, so that it cultivates and develops scholars in every major city in the world! including Muslim countries.

He said that right now al-Azhar is endorsing al-Maghrib, but insha'Allah, the time will come when *al-Maghrib* will be endorsing al-Azhar. :) Shaykh Muhammad's sense of vision, far-sightedness, wisdom, care with this project and sincerity makes me think that this will one day truly become a reality, with the tawfeeq of Allah.

He also said that after ten years, after completing the requisite number of intensive courses and other training, such a a Quran intensive, students of 'ilm will be blossoming into scholars in our communities, with the permission and grace of Allah.  These former al-Maghrib students can then become al-Maghrib teachers, and continue to expand al-Maghrib and spread Islamic knowledge even farther.

Sounds awesome, huh :)
