[slm] I was reading about marriage in Islam and came across this: It is permitted for a man to marry four free women, and he may have intimate relationships with as many as he wishes of slave women whom his right hand possesses. But it is recommended to limit oneself to only one wife if there is the fear of treating them unjustly. http://63.175.194.25/words/rulings_on_marriage/rulings_on_marriage.shtml This means my husband can sleep with as many slave woman as he wants???? :o |

I do not possess any, nor have I ever known a person who did. In very secluded and feudal places, slavery might exist, but it is disappearing from there as well. There is no danger of your husband sleeping with any slave women, for the simple and practical reason that slave women are hard to come by. If I were you, I would be more worried about extra-marital relationships with free women, which is more likely to occur these days. |

[slm] It is imperative for us to understand the following points: 1. The Sharee'ah [Islamic Law] is Divine 2. The Source of Sharee'ah is All Wise, All-Knowing 3. The Sharee'ah is for all times, including our's and our progeny's 4. The Sharee'ah has objectives and complexities within which it operates 5. Not all of us are capable of discovering all the objectives and complexities of the Sharee'ah without scholarly guidance 6. There are no scholars who are regular members of this message board I pray to Allah (awj) to increase our knowledge of the Deen, understanding of the Deen, and certainty in its purity and perfection. Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. P.S. This thread is now locked. Please refer to the archives for previous discussions on the topic of slavery in Islam.
