Muslim girl shaves head over ban

I know the Prophet  [saw] forbid women to shave their heads because it was a kind of punishment. I wonder if it would be allowed as a protest. Astagfirallah this is such a shame. May Allah strengthen our sisters.

Muslim girl shaves head over ban

Cennet Doganay says French law does not respect her
A 15-year-old French Muslim girl has beaten the ban on Islamic headscarves in schools by shaving her head.
Cennet Doganay was banned from classes for wearing a headscarf - as it went against the new law banning religious signs in schools, introduced this term.

At school on Friday she said: "I will respect both French law and Muslim law by taking off what I have on my head and not showing my hair."

Many Muslims believe modesty requires women to cover their hair in public.

The issue of wearing the hijab - as the traditional headscarf is called by Muslims - has sparked controversy across Europe, with states taking different approaches.

France decided to ban all religious symbols in state schools, including large Christian crucifxes, Sikh turbans and Jewish skullcaps.

As the law was introduced in September, schools were told not to automatically exclude pupils who arrived wearing headscarves, but to try and avert a showdown through dialogue.

Respect

Cennet, whose family is of Turkish origin, had only been allowed into the study room at her school in Strasbourg since early September, as they negotiated her return to class without a headscarf.

With her newly-shaven look, she was allowed into school on Friday.

She told journalists waiting outside: "I respect the law but the law doesn't respect me."

Her mother said Cennet had tried everything "a beret, a bandana - but they still refused to let her into class".

"She has been traumatised since the start of term. But all she wanted to do was go to school like everyone else," she told French news agency AFP.

Reports say about 120 schoolgirls across France insisted on keeping their headscarves at the start of term, but most have since given in under threat of expulsion.

I don't know, but now she is doing two things she's not supposed to do. Not covering her head AND shaving her head. Rather, if she simply didn't wear the scarf, it wouldn't be her fault since she is being forced.

All I can say is...wow. This is just abstruse.
Ok...the question is..why did she shave her head? to prove what?!  ::)

I mean, its not just the hair you are covering when you wear a hijab.

This is so sad to read. :(  France must be a horrible place to live for muslims.  Alhamdulillah, it's not like that in the UK where I am.  I think the girl shaved her head to get attention for her protest because it is quite an extreme thing to do and wud get in the papers.

this perception that the Hijab is a VIEW of a few muslims is not going to do much to convince the public that it is mentioned in the Sunnah and Quran and should therefore not be taken lightly but respected.

this is extreme to say the least!!!

surely this is in THEORY only.  There was a sister touring South Africa about a month back and she was interviewed on Channel Islam (www.cii.com).  She mentioned that the hijab is the only so-called "symbol" (as interprestted by the French) that is banned.  Any French Muslimahs here to collaborate this?  Also, she mentioned that it would not be half bad if the gilrs just got expelled, but they are "councilled" by the school first as to why the hijab is wrong for them.

Ya Allah please help our Ummah to uphold your message and live our lives according to the Sunnah of our Beloved Prophet Muhammed (SAW).

Actually, I read a snip-it a couple of days ago here that something like 30 Sikh boys also got sent home, also after said "consultation".  That being said, by far the most affected group are hijabis, numbers wise.
