Dua request/Grandson Jaundice (sp)

May I make a dua request as my Grandson went Jaundice.
Now I don't know much about this,
but from what has been explained it is
not uncommon.
But it has frecked out my son and his wife and
they have both been in tears.
Maybe someone on the board who is in the medical field
can better explain it, I was going to research it on the pc later
tonight.

From what I am understanding his liver is over working making
to many red blood cells but no one yet can tell me why this happens.
I guess a level 10 is not good. He was a level 8 and they said he needed monitoring and it may get to 10.
They do a blood test every 12 hours well, it did not go to 10 it spiked to 15.
I guess when it gets into the 20's they do a blood transfusion  :'(
Poor little boy has been poked and proded.
But he is as ornery as his Grandma  ;)
He is under lights and they have something over his eyes
to protect them from the lights.
Well he got mad or upset or scared
and ripped it off his face and the nurse told my son
she has never seen a baby do that  before :D
Little ornery critter.  ;)
Please pray for him and his parents, they are really frecked out about it.

They are taking another blood test this hour and he has been under
the lights for about 10 or 11 hours now.
Hopefully his next test level will be lower.
Thank you

ADDED LATER: I have since researched this condition on the oc, guess it is not red blood cells but a by product of them something called bilirubin and the blood transfusion thing they are saying are in rare cases. Will keep you all up to date as soon as I hear from my son what tonights levels were.

Glad to hear it's improving and praying for a full recovery for the little guy, in sha Allah.

It's very, very common, just one of those blips in the first few days of life. Please keep us posted.

[slm]

jaundice is common in newborns, symtoms, they look a little yellow, sometimes the eyes can become yellow
this is caused by the liver producing too much billirubin its a yellow pigment, hence turning the baby yellow, the reason for excess production of billirubin is that it is a by product of red blood cell metabolism. babies livers are immature and cannot deal with this high volume of billirbin production in the first few weeks of life, but  has the baby get olde the liver can process billirubin better
the condition is treated by photopherapy the baby is put in an incubator under a blue light
should take about a week isa
dont worry too much its common and can be treated, if hes in hospital hes in the best care
just pray and try to relax wassalam

First of all Sr.Azizah congratulations on your grandson.
Jaundice is very very common in new borns, so Inshallah dont worry he will be soon fine and will be able to go home :)
My first son, when he was born got jaundice when he was only 3 days old. He stayed in the hospital for a week. Mashallah after that we he was and  is fine and healthy(Inshallah will be 10 by the end of this month:) ). So dont worry it is not going to effect anything, INshallah.
I can imagine what you and your son and daughter inlaw are going through.  Please tell them and yourself to be patient and soon he will be home with you guys.

Take care
Wasalam

Thank you, I swear, this is frustrating, I know docs and nurses have to tell
worse case senerio (explain all the poss risks) but it had by son and daughter-in-law so freaked.
And when it was an 8 they told them it could go to a 10 by morning.
But when it nearly doubled to 15 it had them all scared.
I never dealth with this nor know anyone who did in the past.

They told him about the lights, they had 2 on him and dropped it down to one light last night. But they also told them if the levels got to the mid 20's it could mean a blood transfusion which freaked the poor parents out.

They told them that rebound is common when they take the lights off all together levels could go up, so to be aware and prepared for this possibility.

Glad they got to bond with the baby the first 24 hours before
they had to take the baby away to the nursery.

Guess what  :)  I don't know if I should tell the kids, but they picked out his Irish name and I just heard it pronounced and I think they are pronouncing it wrong.
Think I should tell them???
Anyone Irish on the board so I can confirm this before I tell them (or not tell them)
