Name the pinata of sins

[slm] (I changed the subject title once you pointed out that Naf actually means soul/self.) I am building a pinata.~some were not pleased with this at our masjid, for Kids Nite Out. So instead of calling it a pinata, i want to call it____________. What I am making is a pinata and decorating it with stickers/labels of sins. So when hiting the "pinata" the kids will be learning about sins/nafs. I am thinking that as they swing they yell "Allahu Akbar" and "No More Nafs." Subhanna Allah, I have already seen its usefulness. As I was printing out the sins, Ali asked me alot of questions about them. So what would you call it? Am I using the term correctly? As I was trying to explain it to my hubby, he wasn't getting it.

[wlm] :-[He knows what a pinata is, we usually do one for the neighbor kids at Eid (a bit of dawah)... what he isn't getting is the use of the word 'Nafs'. So is the word "Nafs" the right term? I am looking for a descriptive title for the naf ball when the executive committee walks in  :oand asks what it is.

[slm] so your pinata is decorated with lists of sins and he knows what Nafs is actually nafs is me, myself It is our nafse ammara that makes us commit these sins, so call it "nafse ammara"  äÝÓ ÇãÇÑå

Yeah but sister Kathy....  :P Isn't a pinata usually full of candy, and as soon as it breaks all the candy spills out and the kids start killing each other over it?  :D Maybe the right word isn't "nafs", as that's also the word for soul, maybe it can a word that's closer to "ego".  How about "Sin Demolishing Device" ? Never mind.... You know I read an interesting thing about the origin of the piniata, and why it's mostly used in Latin American countries as Bro Timbuktu found out: The early Christian missionaries fashioned piniatas out of clay I believe, in the forms of the gods that the "indigens" used to worship.  They'd get the kids to beat their gods up and the goodies were their reward for doing so....

I love the idea of calling it a "shaytan" and whacking the heck out of it... but all that righteous zeal might be cancelled out by the candy scrimmage that follows... BTW around here pin~atas are *huge* among the Muslims and no one has a problem with it...
