as salaamu alaykum,

wanna know who's really behind the Muslims for Bush website?  Check out this well-researched article by Sr. Saraji Umm Zaid.  She rocks.

wlm,

it's well known who paid for their booth at isna, the daughter asma's booth was side by side the 'muslims for bush' campaign. the only people who vote for bush this year will be those who have an agenda and something to gain or those who are ignorant.. no doubt about it

it's extremely sad that there are wealthy and privlidged muslims in the world who do a disservice to islam. money or no money these people should be shunned from the community. and its extremely important to know who is funding what and why.

props for the great article

wlm,

I had put up an article a few weeks (maybe a month or two) that talked about this Hasan dude and how he came on the Bill O'Reilly show to debate with a Muslim who was against Bush.  Bill O'Reilly appeared to be supporting Hasan.  I was shocked that such an organization existed.

But even though Bush is a horrible person, I don't believe Kerry is much better either, and who knows, maybe just as bad or worse.  I just see this whole election business as a lose-lose situation for Muslims.  Have you noticed that NONE of these guys are trying to solicit Muslim votes, its like we don't exist.

Likewise, I don't see Kerry being any better. But He's just a change. If you think about it, much of the same happens no matter who'se President. I guess one should always have hope that change will happen..and with that I choose to vote for someone different. Just cus of that little bit of hope.

Some claim that less muslims have died while Bush has been in power? Or that all these issues, wars have make muslims more united etc...so why hate on Bush when he has inadvertantly helped us to become more cohesive?

Who knows..but I aint voting for him...:)

Lastly, isnt there a Hadith? someone help me find it or something on those with wealth will be judged harder because of what they do with their wealth? Lots of RICH muslims out there..time and time again I keep saying this...but what are they doing with their money.. I'm sorry but when we have millions of Americans w/o health insurance and lacking in basic health care services...and then we have physicians concerned only with increasing the bulk in their pockets..it makes one wonder. Who are we entrusting ourselves to.

peace n love yall!

Apparently this year the number of absentee ballot requests is a record high, something like three times what it usually is.  My parents are voting for the first time in their lives!  Anyone but Bush, that's the general idea here too.  And I think it's safe to say that the majority of Americans living abroad who can actually SEE what Bush has done to the world and who have a perspective of him other than what resident Americans have are not going to vote for him. There was a very scary documentary on Al Jazeera a few months ago and now French TV is going to broadcast it as well: "The world as Bush sees it".  Basically about Bush being pretty much a born-again Christian who believes that he is divinely guided and is acting according to what God wants him to do.  That's a very scary way of seeing the world, it's just as extremist as the "terrorists" he wants to get rid of.  It seems like he believes he can actually kill all the "terrorists" and that'll be the end of it??!! Is it possible to for anyone of any intelligence to really think that????
Kerry might not be much better but has a fully functioning brain and can put two words together.  Anyone with a brain can see that Bush's "plan"  isn't working.

Hmmmm.....I'm gonna stay way out of the political arena here so just a question re the comment that Bush believes he is divinely inspired and acting according as God wants him to.  Isn;t that a basic religious belief for devout people?  Don't Muslims believe the same thing, not about Bush of course, but about themselves?  If not, please clarify the religious/belief difference.  Thanks!  Sparrow

Kerry may not be much better but getting rid of Bush will get rid of Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz who i think are a bigger problem than Bush himself.

There's been a good documentary called "The Power of Nightmares" on BBC2...can't remember what night it comes on but the last part is on next week.

less muslims have died under bush's administration?Maybe we need to ask a few Iraqis about that one.

I think that Kerry is worse than Bush,he's actually pretty intellligent.

as salaamu alaykum,

Sparrow, that is a very interesting and thought provoking comment.  I think that you struck at the heart of what makes the difference between a believing person and someone who dons the cloak of religosity.

Muslims believe that the prophets were the only people on earth free from error and divinely guided.  Everyone else, Muslims included, are capable of being mistaken and doing wrong.  A person's closeness to God and connection with the divine is based on how closely and carefully they follow the teachings of the religion.

When a person believes they are divinely "inspired" and that they can do no wrong, and that all their actions are justifiable -- that's just scary stuff.    And actually, there have been many people in the history of Islam, and even to this day, who claim a spiritually high station, and that they are divinely inspired, and they attract many many followers to their groups.  The way we are taught to test the veracity of such people's claim is to see if they are following the externalities of the religion.  Anyone who makes such a claim but is not following the external teachings is considered a charlatan.

I don't know much about Christianity, but I am pretty sure that it prohibits:

-- false testimony (as we saw in Bush's state of the union address)
-- permitting and encouraging torture, including the rape of women (that Bush permitted and condoned at Abu Ghraib and other places, as we know from state department documents and memos)
-- the usurping of rights of the innocent (as we see in his domestic policies with detainees)
-- weapons manufacturing on a large scale, used to kill the innocent (as we see from his friends at Halliburton and others)
-- drug use (as we know from his past)
etc.

so the fact that Bush claims to be guided by God, despite his shameful actions, makes me question the veracity of his claim.

just some thoughts that come to mind.  can you tell I'm from the "anything but bush" party? :)

The upcoming election is an extremely important one so I just wanted to remind everyone to vote and encourage others to do also.  It is also important that we use these few days to educate our fellow Americans about the two people running for office so everyone can make a good decision when they vote.

The "Anything But Bush" slogan is a terrible slogan, and I'll explain why.  I think we all can pretty much agree that Bush is terrible and we want someone else.  And quite a few think Kerry is bad, but throwing your vote to someone else, like Nader is not going to win the election for Nader.  Its going to in fact take away votes, votes that would have gone for Kerry.  So this race is either a race for Bush, or a race for Kerry.  Don't vote for anyone else, because it will be a wasted vote, and if your trying to make a political message, its not going to work or do much good.  So if you don't want Bush, then vote for Kerry.  Unfortunately the system is one of 2 parties.  Democrats and Republicans.
