First World War: Turkey sides with Germany and is defeated. The Balkans are lost to the Muslims. Muslim majority provinces are taken over by non-Muslim forces. Wholesale massacres and dislocation of Muslim populations takes place in the Balkans. The Greeks invade Asia Minor, and make gains. Mustafa Kemal Pasha fights back, and defeats Greece. He assumes power, and abolishes the Khilafah. Muslims all over the world agonise over this abolition. The Arabs are promised national state. The Ottoman Caliphate is broken up into client states by the victors - Britain and France. The Arabs are short-changed, by allowing Jewish immigration into Palestine. The Muslims of undivided India rise over this breakup and abolition of the Caliphate under Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali. History calls this the Khilafat Movement. Their mother, bi Amman, is revered as a model mother who spoke in public for this cause, and told her sons to lay down their lives for Khilafa. |
