If you are interested, there is an online group specifically for new converts and those considering conversion to Islam.  It is a good atmosphere with people who will be able to help you with your dillemma.  The link for the group is:

groups.yahoo.com/group/choosingislam

There are lots of people there who are going through what you are going through as well as a number of folks who have converted already.

I hope it will be helpful  :)

To the best of my knowledge you do not have to shave all your hair off! :o
When you bathe now, what do you use?
Also, don't worry about the scarf, now. Just learn more about Islam... I am a revert, as are many on this board, so you are no longer alone.

Many are here to help, even the born Muslims! For the next week, many of us are real busy praying as it is the last week of our Holy month, Ramadan. But we will get back to you. Insha Allah, soon we will be able to answer all your questions.

ahh sister, I always hate to hear stories of Muslims mistreating seekers although unfortunately it does happen. Also, sister, remember, if Musim men treat you in a stand-offish manner, take it with a grain of salt, as it *may* be their way of being modest.
Soon, inshallah you will find a good group who will behave in a better way. (How about Jannah.org)  :)
It is our duty to bring the message of Islam, and any rudeness or doubt is just plain wrong.
Yes, after you say shahadda you should bathe, but please don't shave your hair as it is my understanding that this is haram for women.

:-)

You have to shave your head off?  Never heard of that.

Don't worry...maybe muslims seem a little weary at first, when people ask questions, but inshaAllah you will find people who are willing to answer your questions and such.  You can start here...there are some very knowledgeable people on this board.  You might find someone who lives closeby to you...

And ask away...questions should be asked :)

Wasalaam.

Islam is not so strict that you HAVE to bath and shave and so on. Islam never requires anything more of the believer than that what they are (honestly) capable of. It is recommended that you take a symbolic bath to wash away your old self and shaving of the hair (from stinky and sweaty parts) is a Sunnah practice. One that was implemented by the prophet Muhammad. You don't HAVE to do it or you will go to hell - no one is saying that.
Islam is not about wearing hijab and taking baths and getting shaved. Islam is about believing in your heart and soul that there is only one God and that the prophet Muhammad was sent by him as a guide for mankind.
If you believe this, then you must revert because there is a place in the Qu'ran where it mentions that those who have found and recognised the truth and yet turned their backs on it, will receive justice from Allah.
I think if you have come this far, and it is only these trivial things that are holding you back then you need to step forward, become Muslim and the rest will follow, Insha Allah.
Wishing you all the best!! :)

Asalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu,

Dear brothers and sisters,

Yes, you have to shave... it is not simply a sunnah but is in fact required every 40  days. There is a hadith in either Bukhari or Muslim that says we must remove the hair from under our arms and pubic area and clip our nails every 40 days. So this is something that all muslims should do but if you have a skin problem then you may ask a scholar for a fatawaa and he will tell you what you should do as no muslim is placed in hardship.

Amena

Islam is first and foremost in the heart. If one is unable to perform an action required in Islam due to a health problem then they are absolved of doing so. Like if a person has diabetes, he/she is not required to fast during ramadan if it injures his health, similarily if shaving will irritate your skin then you can perhaps just use beauty sissors to trim the hair and Allah will reward you for the intention.  I know people who think of Ramadan as a burden and fast only because their parents make them do so, while others cry when ramadan comes because they have severe diabetes and can't fast. God knows their hearts and will inshallah reward them for their intention Whenever we do something in Islam it is for the sake of Allah. like sacrificing a sheep, Allahs says in the Quran 22:34-37"It is not their meat that reaches Allah, nor yet their blood, but it is your piety that will reach Him".

Peace:
I pray that my words will somehow encourage you.
Islam my sister is submission to Allah's(God)will.
It does not matter what anyone says to you, because your heart and your intellect are speaking to you . You are being chosen to accept the truth of Al Islam. Following Gods way is really so simple. He only teaches you what is right. You can feel it in your heart that Islam is speaking the truth to you.
The Covering of the scarf is not to be taken as a burden. When you accept Islam you donot have to worry about being attractive or being attracted to. Allah will supply all of your needs and mine. Even when you are being tested , and can't understand why, just remember that Allah is always with you, and this too shall pass.
All you have to do is follow the five pillars of Islam which are:
1.Acceptance of one God,
2.Make at least 5 obligatory prayers a day
3.Fast one month out of the year(called Ramadan)
4.Give in Charity (Help someone)
5.Make Hajj Pilgrimage(at least once in your lifetime) if you can. The last is like a special gift from Allah , to let you come in submission to the first mosque, built by Ibrahim, bearing your soul, for purification before you leave this world.
Islam is for ALL Creation. We just have to see it and accept it. How more beautiful can anything be than this.
Welcome to Peace!!!!!!!!!
