Gifts for wedding guests [Ideas needed]

Any ideas for gifts to give wedding guests?  We didn't want to give the usual boxes/bags of that dried fruit mix with sugar crystals  :P  I think these kind of gifts are known as 'wedding favours'  ???

What do you guys think of mini-chocolate boxes - most chocolate companies do them, but then lots of aunties don't like chocolate (or they say they don't ;) )

All ideas appreciated - my sister  (aka Baji to Board members) is getting married next year inshallah :-*

Yeah CDs is so the in thing.

I still think "maywah" is really cool, though.  It's so much fun sewing the little pouches and then stuffing it with stuff (we put chocolate in ours, along with all the other stuff...for both weddings)...

Also at my friends wedding, they took polaroid shots of everyone standing next to the bride and groom...which people picked up as they left.  But that was a small wedding, so it was manageable.

Ooh weddings :)  MashaAllah.

Wasalaam.

Hmm - I like the CD idea - not sure of the numbers for guests/venue etc etc yet.

Reeeeeallly like the idea of those truffles - they are amazing - don't know if I could force myself to put them in bags to give away ;D

The truffles idea is good. When my first son was born I wanted to do something different when i handed out sweets(mithaiye) so i went to the dollar store and got some glass bowls and filled them with sweets and wrapped the bowl in colored saran wrap, put nice curly ribbons on it, it looked nice, and it wasnt that expensive. when my daughter was born I did the same but this time used big champaign glasses and it looked really nice. You could do that and put different kinds of goodies like nuts and candies and choclates, whatever ur budget allows. You could use little baskets too, put some ribbons and flowers on it to decorate and fill it with whatever u like. Hope i helped some, good luck.

The CD sounds great.
I am soooo shocked Jannah said chocolates  ::)   :P   :-/

How much time (months) before the wedding? How many are attending?
If time permits how about something hand made?
Below are other ideas with estimated costs. Most cost are the time and thought put into it  :) Not sure if you are talking 50 or 200 guests.

1)Mini photo albums (the brag size) can be covered with fabric and lace.
These mini albums can be bought at the dollar store. If this interests you let me know and I can email you the directions. Estimated cost each $2.00
This could go hand in hand with Just Ones idea.

2)Chocolates and/or nuts for larger crowds. Colored saran wrap is great and also at Walmart or a fabric store you can get the netted fabric in many colors, cut a circle, stick in a handful and tie with a ribbon.

3) If for all the sisters attending from the Bride, sachets, fabric cut into a circle with pinking shears, put in a handful of potporri and tie with a ribbon. Attach a note card with your thanks for them coming. Estimated cost $1.00 each

4) Homemade note cards you make yourself with the natural paper that has the fibers, design with glitter. Inside write your thanks for them attending include a different Dua or verse in each (different so all are individual and special) Estimated cost $.75 to $1.25 each depending upon how elaberate you get. I can email pics of samples.

5) Do you or your sister crochet? What about a doily at each place setting for them to take home? Could also attach #4 above with it. Estimated cost .50 to .75 cents of yarn. Mom, sister, you and aunties can make a night of it crocheting and women chatting  ;)

I know most of these ideas are a sisters thing, but the mini photo album could be a bro or sister type gift.

One of the nicest wedding favors that I have ever seen was that each guest was given a book (small, relatively inexpensive).  At one wedding, everyone received a copy of Imam al Ghazali's "Dear Beloved Son"
http://www.awakeningusa.com/products/5.

Another wedding featured copies of Imam Hasan al Basri's "Prayers for Forgiveness" http://www.whitethreadpress.com/prayers_forgiveness.htm.

Masha'allah, very nice.  These are both pocket sized books, very spiritual, very valuable works.  Something similar might work for you.
