Salam Alaikum
To answer your question why I have'nt converted yet, I thought someone has to be there who is already a muslim for me to take shahadah. And my partner well I dont class him as a practicing muslim he never prays, he did'nt fast in ramadan, and hes started eating bacon (which I really hate the smell off yuk). But he did make a big deal of wanting to go to the mosque on eid when he visited his family which is a start. We both want to bring our daughter up islamically, but I think its going to take a while for my partner to start practicing. I hope you dont think I'm being nasty about my partner, I'm not. Where i used to live is mainly a muslim area but they drink, take drugs, never pray or fast during ramadan then they say thry are good muslims because they visit the mosque once a year on eid,. And back to the main question I dont know anyone who will be there for me to take shahadah and I dont think my partner will take it seriously at this point, hes laughing right now cos hes seen what I've wrote.
Thankyou all for welcoming me
Wa salam
Sarah

As salaamu alaikum --

Sarah, you might want to try the Choosing Islam Group at Yahoo.  You can write to the moderator at choosingislam-subscribe@yahoogroups.com to apply for membership. Many of the members are either new to Islam or are seriously considering becoming Muslim.

The home page is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/choosingislam/

You can also try http://www.iprofess.com/ , a web site devoted to the needs of new Muslims.

Welcome, Sarah! Come in, sit down, have a Bebzi  []

You might also want to contact the New Muslims Project in Leicester UK, they would be able to help a great deal, I think (in sha Allah - if Allah wills). I have a copy of their latest newsletter right here with me and it seems that they have a support network all over the UK.

If you go to www.islamic-foundation.org.uk I think you will find a link to the New Muslims Project. Or PM me for the e-mail of the sister in charge, I don't want to post it on the board in case of trolls...

Wishing you well

[slm] Sarah,

Maashallah!  You are not only on the right path but also have got the right attitude.  Seeing all those Muslims who profess the religion not practicing yet you still want to convert.  That is a great.

Also, contact Bro. Hanif at www.muslimprofessionals.org.uk  He will be able to advise and help you make contact.

Welcome on board.  You will love it here.

[slm] Sarah,

I've been there :) My husband also was not "practising" when I got interested in Islam. He hadn't gone so far as to eat pork or drink alcohol but he wasn't praying or fasting Ramadan.
Alhamdulillah, through my conversion and nagging   ;D  he started to pray again and to fast and now the tables have turned and he is the one who nags me to stay with the deen :)

If you'd ever like to chat on yahoo or msn or aim, or even exchange emails just let me know your email address by sending me a personal message here at the madina. I come from Ireland orginally and am now living in Germany and my husband is from Pakistan. Maybe if your partner is Asian we can get him and my hubby chatting and he might sway in the right direction again, Allahu Ahlam (and Allah knows best).

take care, thinking of you
peace
eleanor

PS this board is an excellent place to come if you have conversion in mind - just be aware - addiction is swift and painless and there is no going back once you have jumped in /muahahahahahaaaaaa

Hello Sarah. I admire that you are still determined to learn about islam and even maybe convert with such people and surroundings. Up to this day it still gets me that for those of us who are born muslims look to this sisters and bros who convert as the best examples because majority of them embrace islam and strive to practice it as it should be done. What has gone wrong with our ummah? Never mind, I'll answer my own question. We as muslims have gone so far of the deen and no longer look to the Quran for guidance nor make islam our way of life. The sisters who convert are the first to cover themselves properly, make salah and strive to educate themselves about the deen.I have seen this unfortunately in a lot of places that I have been to here in the US.It's really embarassing at times when you see people carrying themselves as if they are better than others because they were born muslims or are from an islamic country. Futhermore, some of us born as muslims strive hard to push our customs and culture as islam, are also first to criticize them( these new converts) etc. Sarah, stay strong for you are striving for the truth and light. I hope you get the right guidance from good practising muslims. Unfortunately as you go along you will indeed see a lot more of some muslims actions that may be questionable. The important thing is to strive to educate yourself as much as possible on islam and (God willing) you will be alright.I wish you all the best.

Welcome to the board Sarah.  Please ask all the questions you want to HERE!  We're here to help you, insha'Allah.  Alhumdullilah there's a great support network here.  Here's a great site with information on how to become a Muslim, you don't need any witnesses, you can do it right now:

http://www.al-sunnah.com/onlyforyou.htm

And this is something you should take seriously and are ready to commit to.  If you are confused about some matters or need some help, please ask, many of the people on this board have gone through the same things that you are going through and they understand.  May Allah (SWT) help and guide you and your family to Islam.

Sarah are you from cambridge city or the cambridge area? My wife is a revert from cambridge, you may know her as its not a very large muslim community. Theres a number of muslimah reverts in cambridge, but you need to be careful who you mix with.

With if check out this website they have all the latest events which revert sisters in cambridge have organised, maybe you'd like to go along some time.
