What experience awakened you?

[slm]Bros and Sisters. I was just curious to hear from different muslims the different  things that you have experienced that awakened you and made you practice your religion more. Let me start by my own examples, having been born in a muslim country I realized the need when I came here in the US to learn more about my religion.I could not hear the adhan as I was used to back home, when walking down the street covered up some people would look at you strangely etc.Islam had always been a part of my life growing up and I had taken it for granted the various things that surrounded me that enabled me to practice it. Now here I was, eager to see another sister and say salaam to her, go to the masjid for prayer and most of all participate in my local community.
Also the death of a few of my loved ones has made me realize that death can come at any age and any time.I remember in one of my former communities during one Jumaah, we had to perform the funeral prayer for a sister. It was so sad to know that we had no place to wash our dear loved ones when they passed away and had just barely got a piece of land to bury them. This indeed was something that we never had to worry back in my home country. It is something that really gets to you. This has pushed me into trying further to make a connection with my Creator, Allah(SWT). I'm still a student trying to learn about my deen inshallah.

Sister I was raisedthe opposite from you in  depraved sexual culture were
I was ridiculed for being a virgin. We induldged ourselves sick...careless about
the world around us. In 1984 saw the famine in Africa and decided I wanted
to do something worthwhile with my life. I left the United States and moved to Finland...I was horrified at images of Serbians killing muslims and vice versa.
One plane flight back home I stopped in JFK airport in New York and stopped in a book shop. There was an English translation of the Qu'ran. That Message delivered
to Muhammad pbuh changed something in me. It took many years before I
made shahadallah. I still struggle because Shaytan wants me to fail and glorify
in my weakness. My dream is to be a relief worker in spite of the dangers I would
gladly give my life for Allah and the children who need medical attention.
I am sickened by the uneccesary deaths of innocent people. If I could do a
microscopic action that resulted in something to help stop the occupation...I
would feel I did something worthwhile in my life. Allah has blesssed and cured
me of the sick person I use to be and turned my heart of stone to warmth,
love, and compassion.

Wa Salaam

[slm]Bro Bangachi1. Jazakallah for responding and sharing this with us. It is a very nice thing that you want to do as a relief worker and assist the innocent. May Allah(SWT) assist you in making your path easier and reaching your goal. Bros and sisters don't forget to make dua for all those poor muslims who are going through hardships in various parts of the world.inshallah.
