[slm] What is the most effective methods to teach a child who is a non-arabic speaker to memorize Quran? Do you just repeat recitation for many times? does it help you to have to make sure they understand the meaning? some of the words it is hard even in English for him to understand because of his young age. Do you make him write it out many times? They have a tape at home where he repeats after the shaikh recitation but it isn't something that he is keeping up. So if you had two hours a week with this child what do you do? |

[slm]All children actually don’t understand the meaning of Quran .They only and can easily memorize without understanding the perfect meaning ,soI don’t see any difference or difficulty the non Arabic speakers may face in memorizing .Repeating recitation is an effective way ,this is the way for example my kids memorize the Quran and I found it working .They are Arabic speakers but they still don’t understand so easily the perfect meaning only by reading unless its explained to them.. in the first place I think its better to teach them the right pronunciation .Some hard words are to be repeated again and again until they are pronounced well then follows memorizing but the short SURAS can be taught with their meaning Insha allah this helps |

The best way to teach a child the quran is to start with him at a very young age, don't teach him the meaning yet as he is too young and will not understand. While he is around 3 start teaching him how to recite/memorizee with the proper recitation(tajweed), while at the same time teaching him how to read and write arabic.(note:all this can be done at a good qur'anic school) Teach him what some of the arabic words mean and make him acquainted with the parables in the quran(if you do this the nxt step gets easier). When he is older around 10-12 make him listen to quranic translation tapes by well-known mufasireen in his own native tongue. To make sure he is paying attention make him do the tafseer to you the next day word for word. I like to emphasize that when non-arabic speakers are taught the qur'aan they should be thought its meaning along with it. If you do this for your kids they'll appreciate you and your thoughful ways for eternity. This is the method my mom used for my uncle, my brother and myself. Thanks to Allah and to her we know the meaning of what we recite. May the almighty grant her al-firdaus. But then other methods might work for you. |
What is the most effective methods to teach a child who is a non-arabic speaker to memorize Quran?
assalaamu alaikum Isn't this like putting the cart before the horse? I'm curious; is there an impediment to the kid learning how to read Arabic first? In any case, to answer your question, i guess i would get the kid to memorise starting from juzz `amma (short surahs) and provide the kid with a transliteration of each surah. Also, once a week for two hours seems way too little time to achieve this goal, and taufeeq is from Allah. I'd increase this two or three times i think. |
